Short Description: Develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.
More Details: This course is nine hours long and is conducted in a classroom and at a shooting facility. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and a Course Evaluation form.
Additional Event Information
Standard Operating Procedures: In addition to the baseline NRA instruction, you will also receive coaching from our very experienced Chief Range Officer as well as a copy of our standard operating procedure line commands, which will prepare you to execute Range Officer duties for formal NRA competition. Most NRA RSO classes simply state, “refer to your range SOPs” but do not provide any examples. Every student in our RSO class will get practice actually calling line commands as well as practice making a shooting line safe.
Course Material Fee: An additional fee of $20 is due the day of the event which covers your NRA student handbook, test and certificate. You may audit the class without a student packet but will not receive completion credit from the NRA.
NRA Credentialing Fee: All first time instructors, Coaches, and Range Safety Officers pay a flat credentialing fee of $30 for a 2 year term. Additional ratings can be added at a rate of $10 per rating. Fees for non-NRA members are $50/$20 respectively. This fee is payable directly to the NRA after you complete the RSO class with us.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Attending this class gives you the opportunity to earn certification as a Range Safety Officer. Candidates without the knowledge, skills or attitude to safely serve in this important capacity will not be passed. If the unlikely event an individual fails to meet the baseline standards, we will give you additional opportunities to demonstrate the required skills at no charge.
