Shotgun 116 (Intro to Sporting Shotgun) – 1/2 Day (Fishers, IN)
Apr 25, 2020 @ 8:00 am—12:00 pm EDT

Shotgun 116 (Introduction to Sporting Shotgun) Overview
Prerequisites: None
Estimated Ammunition Required: About 50 rounds of 7/8 to 1 1/8 oz #7 or #8 shotshells.
Shotgun Requirements: A break-action over/under or semi-auto shotgun in 20, 16 or 12 gauge; a pump-action shotgun, while not ideal, is certainly usable. While 12 gauge is generally preferred, those of smaller stature as well as youth may find that the lesser recoil of 20 or 16 gauge will help them more fully enjoy the event. Bring whatever shotgun you have and we will work with you.
Required Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Shotgun 116 equipment and plan to bring the following:
- a way to take notes
- hearing protection
- eye protection
- plenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)
- clothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing, especially around the neck, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)
It is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight, manufacturer, etc) for this event.
Optional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event:
- a shotgun shell carrier able to hold 1 box of shells
- hat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)
- snacks
- sunscreen and/or bug spray
Loaner Firearms: the club has a number of loaner firearms suitable for use at this event. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm.

- Rules for safe gun handling & range rules
- Shotgun parts and operation
