THIS IS A RIMFIRE ONLY EVENT! \nRequired Equipment: \n\nhearing protection\neye protection\nmagazines or speed loaders if needed\nbipod\, bag\, pack or field-expedient rest\nlunch (we’ll be staying on the range during lunch break)\nwater and something to replace electrolytes (what plants crave)\nsnacks\na way to take notes\n\nOptional Equipment: \n\nshooting mat\nrifle/optic manual(s)\nhat with a brim\nknee/elbow pads\nfolding chair\nsmall tool kit / cleaning kit\nstapler\n\nClinic Overview: Attendees will develop a working knowledge of the skills needed to zero a rifle\, trajectory\, internal/external ballistics\, “doping the sights” and how to make hits at known distances. Shots will be made at reduced distances of 25-200 yards\, effectively simulating the difficulty of shooting a centerfire rifle at 100-500 yards. \nAll firing in this course will be done from the prone position off a rest and within 200 yards. We will focus on attaining proper come-ups for your rifle/ammo combination. You will save time & money by learning the concepts at this course and then applying them when shooting bigger rifles at longer distances while hunting\, PRS-style shooting\, defensive carbine\, etc. \nThis class is not physically demanding but we will be walking 200yds and getting into and out of the prone position several times throughout the day. \nAttendees should arrive for registration at 8:30 am. Class starts promptly at 9:00! \nTopics of instruction will include the following:\n\nField Shooting to Known Distances: Target Detection/Target Identification\nExternal Ballistics: Effects of Wind\, Temperature and Humidity\nBasic Ballistics Calculations: Using Minutes of Angle (MOA) or Milliradians (MRAD/mils)\nRange Estimation: Field-Expedient methods of determining Range\nData Collection: How to set up a “Dope Book”\n\nShots that Changed History!\nFrom the involvement of Daniel Morgan’s men at the siege of Boston in 1775 to the pivotal shots made by Timothy Murphy at the battle of Yorktown in 1781\, Colonial Marksmen made shots that shifted the course of the American Revolutionary War and\, ultimately\, changed the course of world history! \nHear the tale of these shots – made using the same skills learned in this clinic – woven throughout the day’s course of instruction. \n

SUMMARY:Marty Brown Memorial Open Defensive Rifle/Shotgun/Pistol — One Day (Seelyville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Marty Brown Memorial Open Overview\nThe Marty Brown Memorial Open™ event honors Marty Brown\, an instructor with Revere’s Riders who lost a 40-month battle with ovarian cancer in 2017. You can read more about Marty as well as Ovar’coming Together on the Marty Brown Memorial™ page of our website. \n50% of ticket revenue (after deduction of range fees and lunch costs) will be donated to Ovar’coming Together to assist in their programs to support women diagnosed with ovarian cancer as well as funding ovarian cancer research. If you would like to make an additional donation\, please visit the Donation page on the Ovar’coming Together website. \nSwag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions\nWe are just beginning our solicitation for products that will be available as part of swag bags\, give aways\, prizes and silent auction. Details will be posted to the 2026 Marty Brown Memorial Open™ Defensive Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun Swag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions page as they are finalized. \nSign up for our email newsletter using the form in the website footer to be notified of items as we receive them. \nEvent Overview\nThis event is moderately physically demanding. We will be on our feet much of the day\, moving between various positions on the range. We will be shooting from different positions throughout the day. The event will be setup as a two hot range event with groups rotating between stations. \nPrerequisites: Basic Defensive Rifle is recommended. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 300 rounds rifle ammunition\, 200 rounds of pistol ammunition and 50rounds birdshot\, 10 rounds 00 Buck\, 10 slugs. \nGeneral Required Equipment: You should plan to bring the following to the event: \n\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nGeneral Optional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nmagazine dump pouch\ncase for your rifle\ncase for your pistol\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nRifle Requirements: the AR-15 is an ideal rifle to bring. However\, any safe semi-automatic rifle/carbine can be used (Mini-14\, AK-47\, Tavor\, etc.). \nRequired Rifle Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Rifle equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least four (4) magazines for your rifle/carbine\ntwo (2) mag pouches to hold your spare rifle magazines (chest rig or gun belt)\nsling for your rifle (a 2-point adjustable sling is recommended although a 1-point sling will work fine if that is your preference; the US GI sling is probably not ideal for this event)\n\nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your rifle/carbine for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \nPistol Requirements: Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. The following are a good set of guidelines for an appropriate pistol for this event: \n\na medium-frame or large-frame pistol (e.g.\, Glock 19/Glock 17 or similar)\nmake sure your pistol is in good working order; if in doubt\, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith or armorer. A pistol that malfunctions constantly will get you plenty of practice addressing malfunctions but not much practice with the drills\nleave the brand new pistol you bought the day before the event at home\n\nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your pistol for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \nRequired Pistol Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Defensive Pistol equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nmagazines or speed loaders: bring at least THREE (more is better\, especially if you are using a pistol with a capacity of less than 10 rounds)\nholster: a strong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle\, shoulder or small-of-back holsters). Either IWB (“inside the waistband”) or OWB (“outside the waistband”) are fine\, but the holster you intend to use for concealed carry would be preferred. An OWB holster is often easier to use if you have never drawn from a holster before but will still allow you to participate fully in the drills we will conduct. The crucial aspect is that your holster MUST hold your firearm securely without letting it move around on your hip; this will necessitate a holster that attaches at TWO POINTS to your gun belt; your holster should have sufficient retention to keep your firearm secure if you are rolling around on the ground.\ngun belt: you will have your pistol on your hip for the entire day. It will seem heavier as the day goes on and a good\, sturdy gun belt will minimize that feeling. A standard belt isn’t going to cut it here; spend a couple of dollars on a quality gun belt if you don’t already have one.\ntwo (2) mag pouches to hold your spare pistol magazines\n\nShotgun Requirements: semi-automatic or pump-action. If you have any questions concerning the suitability of your shotgun for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nSkills Contests: several skills contests will be run at this event: \n\nSand Dummy Drag\n\ndrag a 150 lb sand dummy approximately 200 yards during which you will be required to stop and perform buddy aid\ncomplete sand dummy drag\, drop rucksack\nengage paper targets with a pistol from various positions/angles\nengage 10 steel targets with a rifle and 10 rounds (1 point per hit)\nscoring via hits and overall elapsed time\n\n\nPistol Pick Up\n\nfrom a table of 5 different pistols\, pick up each and fire two rounds on paper targets (one sighter plus one additional shot)\nscoring via closest to the bullseye on all five targets\n\n\nBattlefield Pick Up\n\npick up a random rifle from a table\nengage steel targets with two rounds\nscoring via combined hit and overall elapsed time\n\n\nAdditional “surprise” skills contests\n\nEntries into the Skills Contests will be available for purchase at the event; see the 2026 Marty Brown Memorial Open™ Defensive Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun Swag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions page for prize list. \nAdditional Event Information\nSpectators are welcome but will be asked to remain a safe distance from the firing line (ear protection is required for all spectators; eye protection is optional). \nYour ticket price includes range fees and lunch. \nEvent Sponsors

Instruction will include classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\n\nRifle Prerequisites: None \nEstimated Rifle Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds rifle ammunition. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nRequired Rifle Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Rifle equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is preferred; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nPistol Overview (Sunday\, Sep 6)\nThis event will follow the outline of Basic Pistol\, our introductory pistol marksmanship course based on traditional American service pistol fundamentals. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a practical stance. Basic Pistol includes classroom and range time learning to shoot handguns. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nPistol parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nTwo Handed Grip & Stance: Isoceles\, benchrest\, and low ready positions (Weaver may also be taught)\nNatural Point of Aim\nShot Group Analysis\nClearing Common Stoppages\nWhittemore’s Stand Pistol Qualifier\nClassic WW2 Pistol Qualification Test (optional)\n\nPistol Prerequisites: None \nEstimated Pistol Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds of pistol ammunition. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nRequired Pistol Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Pistol equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nWe will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in the class activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your pistol\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nSpectators are welcome but will be asked to remain a safe distance from the firing line (ear protection is required for all spectators; eye protection is optional). \nYour ticket price includes range fees and lunch. \nEvent Sponsors
