DESCRIPTION:Event Overview: Two separate classes! Take the class best suited to your needs or sign up for both to save a bit of money. FREE FOR KIDS WITH A PAYING ADULT!!! \n\nBasic Land Navigation – Introduction to Orienteering: \nOn Saturday we’ll spend a few hours in the classroom covering the basics of land navigation and orienteering: how to read a map and use a compass to find your way\, plus a whole bunch of background information on the history of cartography\, navigating and alternative methods to avoid getting lost! \nAfter lunch we’ll head out to a local park and use our newly learned skills to find several pre-positioned items. It’ll be a fun\, family-friendly scavenger hunt to instill confidence and reinforce analog methods of getting around. \nIntermediate Land Navigation – Advantageous Use of Terrain for the Marksman:\nSunday’s Intermediate class will focus on applying military fundamentals to the world around us. We’ll dive deeper into analyzing maps and references available to civilians through open sources. Morning classroom instruction followed by a strategic planning exercise. \nAfter lunch\, attendees will participate in a guided walkthrough of a hilly and wooded local park doing tactical terrain identification and analysis. \n  \nRequired Equipment: Please plan to bring the following: \n\nClothing appropriate for the weather and comfortable shoes or boots\nPen/Pencil\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nCompass (If you have a compass\, bring it! But don’t feel like you have to buy one for class.)\nMaps (Feel free to bring maps from your area to compare & discuss!)\nMap Case\, Folder/Binder\, Gallon-size Plastic Zipper Bags (To keep maps dry.)\nProtractor\nRuler or Tape Measure\nPencil\, Grease Pencil\, Colored Pencils\, Markers (Fine tip preferred.)\nSunscreen and/or Bug spray\nChange of clothing/footwear. Towel. Rain gear if needed.\nSnacks/Drinks (A way to replace electrolytes… what plants crave!)\n\nEach attendee will receive a map & compass. Please bring your own if you have one (or more!) and we’ll cover how to use it. Do not feel like you have to buy new equipment for this class but if you’ve been wanting to get something for a while\, now’s the time!  \nTopics of Instruction: \n\nMaps: history\, types\, how they work\nCompasses: history\, types\, how they work\nRulers/Protractors/Strings & Straight Edges: how to use these tools to aid in navigation\nFinding points on a map and locating them in the field\nNavigating from point to point\nDetermining your location using a map & compass\nPace count\nNavigating around hazards\, in the dark and during inclement weather\n\n\nEvent Location:\nBoth events take place in historic downtown Lebanon\, Ohio\, a charming little town located midway between Cincinnati & Dayton\, and not too far from Columbus. Lebanon is described as\, “historic charm\, reimagined.” \nWe’ll be meeting each morning at 9:ooam at The Lebanon Brewing Company\, located at 20 West Silver St.\, Lebanon\, Ohio 45036 for the classroom portion. Parks are located just a few blocks away and we’ll be walking to them each afternoon. Free parking is available in the bank parking lot behind the brewery (ignore the no parking signs\, it’s the weekend!) and in public lots throughout Lebanon. \nLunch is available for purchase on site each day at The LBC’s Ladder 41 Kitchen or attendees may leave to enjoy lunch elsewhere. Class will reconvene at 1:00pm for the field exercises. \nLebanon is home to several boutiques\, antique shops and ice cream purveyors right downtown as well as Ohio’s oldest continually operated inn\, The Golden Lamb. \nAccommodations and attractions abound in this area of southwestern Ohio. Please “make a weekend of it” with family and friends while attending this event! Lebanon is appx. 15min from King’s Island\, one of the premier amusement parks in the nation. We will be on our feet much of the day\, moving between various positions on the range. We will be shooting from different positions throughout the day. The event will be setup as a two hot range event with groups rotating between stations. \nPrerequisites: Basic Defensive Rifle is recommended. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 300 rounds rifle ammunition\, 200 rounds of pistol ammunition and 50rounds birdshot\, 10 rounds 00 Buck\, 10 slugs. \nGeneral Required Equipment: You should plan to bring the following to the event: \n\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nGeneral Optional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nmagazine dump pouch\ncase for your rifle\ncase for your pistol\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nRifle Requirements: the AR-15 is an ideal rifle to bring. The following are a good set of guidelines for an appropriate pistol for this event: \n\na medium-frame or large-frame pistol (e.g.\, Glock 19/Glock 17 or similar)\nmake sure your pistol is in good working order; if in doubt\, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith or armorer. A pistol that malfunctions constantly will get you plenty of practice addressing malfunctions but not much practice with the drills\nleave the brand new pistol you bought the day before the event at home\n\nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your pistol for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \nRequired Pistol Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Defensive Pistol equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nmagazines or speed loaders: bring at least THREE (more is better\, especially if you are using a pistol with a capacity of less than 10 rounds)\nholster: a strong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle\, shoulder or small-of-back holsters). Either IWB (“inside the waistband”) or OWB (“outside the waistband”) are fine\, but the holster you intend to use for concealed carry would be preferred. An OWB holster is often easier to use if you have never drawn from a holster before but will still allow you to participate fully in the drills we will conduct. The crucial aspect is that your holster MUST hold your firearm securely without letting it move around on your hip; this will necessitate a holster that attaches at TWO POINTS to your gun belt; your holster should have sufficient retention to keep your firearm secure if you are rolling around on the ground.\ngun belt: you will have your pistol on your hip for the entire day. It will seem heavier as the day goes on and a good\, sturdy gun belt will minimize that feeling. A standard belt isn’t going to cut it here; spend a couple of dollars on a quality gun belt if you don’t already have one.\ntwo (2) mag pouches to hold your spare pistol magazines\n\nShotgun Requirements: semi-automatic or pump-action. If you have any questions concerning the suitability of your shotgun for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Instruction will include classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\n\nRifle Prerequisites: None \nEstimated Rifle Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds rifle ammunition. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. If after reading the event description you would like to participate\, please contact the Event Director to request an invitation. \nMarty Brown Memorial Invitational Overview\nThe Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ rifle match honors Marty Brown\, an instructor with Revere’s Riders who lost a 40-month battle with ovarian cancer in 2017. A portion of match proceeds will be donated to Ovar’coming Together and Ascension St. Vincent to assist in their programs to support women diagnosed with ovarian cancer as well as funding ovarian cancer research. You can read more about Marty as well as Ovar’coming Together on the Marty Brown Memorial™ page of our website. \nThe comprehensive list of fundraising items for the 10th Annual Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ rifle match is available on the 2026 Marty Brown Memorial Invitational Swag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions page. \nSign up for our email newsletter to be notified of items as we receive them. \nMatch Information and Rules\nThe Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ rifle match is an informal 3-position known distance match shot according to the Revere’s Riders Rifle Qualification Test. This is an invitational match and you must be invited to attend. Marksmen will receive an invitation by satisfying one of the following: \n\nshoot a score of Marksman or better on the Revere’s Riders Rifle Qualification Test (must be in the same calendar year as the Invitational)\nsatisfy the Match Director that you are proficient and safe enough to participate\n\nThis is a competition match and no instruction will be provided. \nFor general match information and rules\, please see the Marty Brown Memorial Invitational Rifle Match Rules page. \n\nAdditional Event Information\nTicket price includes all range fees. \nPre-registration is Required\nAll participants must purchase tickets by the DEADLINE of 5:00 PM on October 9\, 2026.  It is Camp Atterbury policy that we must give them a list of attendees 30 days prior to any event so that they may be vetted before being allowed on-base. Absolutely no registrations will be allowed after this deadline.  The unique venue for this event requires that we share your name and other personal information you submit to Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (CAJMTC)\, Military Police and the Range Control office. Your information will not be used in any manner other than to allow your admittance to the installation and to contact you regarding this event. Pre-registration is required so that we can forward your information to CAJMTC in time for the event. You are also responsible for reading the below additional range information specific to Camp Atterbury. Please keep in mind that we are using a military facility and military rules and discipline are in force. \nRefund Policy\nEvent will be held RAIN or SHINE!\nCamp Atterbury is an active military installation\, as such we may have our scheduled access removed as late as the day before the event. Refunds will only be issued for this event due to cancellation of the event by military authorities. Absolutely no refunds will be given for any other reason. \nAdditional Range Information\nArrival Time \nYou MUST Arrive On Time\nPlan to arrive NO LATER than 7:45AM. Anyone arriving later than this will not be allowed to participate in the event and your event fees will not be refunded. This is due to the need to meet at Range Control and proceed to the range as a group. We will not wait for you; plan to be early. \nBase Access Policy \n\nCAMP ATTERBURY BASE ACCESS: the military is being more restrictive on who is allowed on-base and the credentials that need to be presented to gain access. You will need to have one of the following to gain base access (NO EXCEPTIONS): \n\nReal ID (like what is now required to board commercial aircraft)\nPassport\nMilitary ID (either current or retired)\n\nYour ID must be current (i.e.\, not expired). \n\nThis is federal\, not Camp Atterbury\, policy intended to increase the security of military bases in response to heightened threats posed in recent years. \nBase Firearms Policy \nCAJMTC firearms policy—NO LOADED FIREARMS PERMITTED ON BASE. Concealed carry is NOT ALLOWED on base; you may only load a firearm while on a designated range. Before you proceed to the base entrance and attempt to pass through security\, make sure that all firearms in your vehicle and on your person (don’t forget your concealed carry sidearm) are unloaded\, in a secure case and separated from your ammunition. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nDirections to Range Control \nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury main gate to access the military side of the base. When asked\, tell gate security that you are there for the Revere’s Riders event along with any other information gate security requests. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways (if the range is “hot”\, these should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. Range Control is reached by continuing south on the entrance road (Eggleston Street). Range Control will be on your left just before County Road 900 South. Himsel Airfield will be on your right just beyond the intersection of Eggleston Street and CR 900 S.  \nOvernight Accommodations\nCivilian lodging is available on base in standard “chargeable transient quarters”. Standard rooms with shared bathroom are $43/night and Deluxe rooms with private bath are $58/night. For reservations\, call the Camp Atterbury Lodging Office at 812-526-1128. Let them know that you are with Revere’s Riders. \n \nEvent Sponsors\n\n\n \n  \n\n3M Peltor has graciously provided Revere’s Riders with Peltor LiteCom Plus communications headsets for use at this event. These headsets incorporate radios allowing wearers to communicate with each other via their headsets. Extremely convenient for ranges where the target line is manned like Camp Atterbury.
