DESCRIPTION:Marty Brown Memorial Open Overview\nThe Marty Brown Memorial Open™ event honors Marty Brown\, an instructor with Revere’s Riders who lost a 40-month battle with ovarian cancer in 2017. You can read more about Marty as well as Ovar’coming Together on the Marty Brown Memorial™ page of our website. \n50% of ticket revenue (after deduction of range fees and lunch costs) will be donated to Ovar’coming Together to assist in their programs to support women diagnosed with ovarian cancer as well as funding ovarian cancer research. Details will be posted to the 2022 Marty Brown Memorial Open Round #1 Swag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions page as they are finalized. \nSign up for our email newsletter using the form in the website footer to be notified of items as we receive them. \nEvent Overview\nThis event will follow the outline of Rifle 125\, our signature offering based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” This event is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels and lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Instruction will include classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\n\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds rifle ammunition. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Rifle 125 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is preferred; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. SUMMARY:Rifle 223 (Carbine) – One Day (Seelyville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Rifle 223 (Carbine) Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Rifle 125 or similar class. \nIf you have not attended Rifle 125\, then you should be able to reliably hit a 10″ paper plate from the standing position out to 25 yards\, kneeling at 50 yards\, and prone at 100 yards. You should be able to consistently hit a 3×5 index card at 15 yards while standing. You should be familiar with basic operation of your carbine. If you cannot meet the accuracy suggestion then you may be frustrated at carbine class and be better served learning the fundamentals of marksmanship at a Rifle 125 clinic. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: 300 rounds/day \nRifle Requirements: This course is conducted as an NRA America’s Rifle Challenge clinic and\, as such\, the AR-15 is an ideal rifle to bring. While this course is named for the common round fired by the AR-15 (“.223 Remington”) any safe semi-automatic carbine can be used (Mini-14\, AK-47\, Tavor\, etc.). \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Rifle 223 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least four (4) magazines for your carbine (more is better)\nsling for your rifle (a 2-point adjustable sling is recommended although a 1-point sling will work fine if that is your preference; the US GI sling is probably not ideal for this event)\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nknee/elbow pads (we may shoot from kneeling and other positions)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Attendees will experience shooting in multiple firing positions at varying distances and will learn modern defensive shooting skills on the AR platform. All firing in this course will be within 200 yards with a focus on the close quarters environment from contact to 50 yards. You will get a workout with all the skills needed to run the carbine from 7-100 yards. At some venues we may work out to the battlesight zero of your carbine (200-300 yards) but the focus is on short range marksmanship. Topics will include the following: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nCarbine parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting Fundamentals\n\nFiring Stance: Standing\nFive steps to firing each shot\nZero rifles as required\n\n\nSituational Awareness and Scanning\nRapid Magazine Changes (Tactical Reloads)\nShort Range Marksmanship Techniques\n\nTailoring the five steps to firing each shot to the close quarters environment\nControlled Pairs\nRecoil Management\n\n\nClearing Malfunctions/Stoppages\n\nEmergency/Speed Reloads\nFailure to Fire\nFailure to Eject\nDouble Feed\n\n\nSpecial Subjects (most one-day clinics will cover only a few of these — two day clinics will cover most or all)\n\nZeroing Carbines & Rifles\nCarbine Trajectory and Zero Issues\nBarricades\nMovement\nKneeling Position\nProne Position\nUse of the sling to support shooting stability\nNatural Point of Aim\nFiring from retention\nField Stripping & Cleaning the AR-15\n\n\nClassic WW2 Carbine Qualifier\nRevere’s Riders Carbine Skills Test\n\nThis class is moderately physically demanding. We will be on our feet much of the day\, moving between various positions on the range. We will be shooting from different positions throughout the day. \nPlease contact the event director if you intend to bring a different type of firearm other than an AR-15; we can probably accommodate learning on your preferred platform but want to ensure you will not be frustrated. \nThe Spirit of 1776\nPicking up where “The Midnight Ride” concludes\, the Spirit of 1776 traces the first full year of the American war for independence. From the high point of the Evacuation of Boston to the lows of early winter of 1776\, follow the Continental Army as they are forced to flee across New York and New Jersey. Learn about the nearly insurmountable challenges they faced and the hope\, faith and daring that pulled Victory out of certain defeat. \nIf you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to face down a huge amphibious armada invading New York City\, shiver around a campfire reading about “summer soldiers and sunshine patriots\,” or gamble it all on a desperate crossing of the Delaware River for “Liberty or Death” then you need to hear the Spirit of 1776. \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events.
