SUMMARY:Advanced Defensive Rifle - One Day (Seelyville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Advanced Defensive Rifle Overview\nPrerequisites: Revere’s Riders Intermediate Defensive Rifle or similar. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: 500 rifle rounds/day; 250 pistol rounds/day \nRifle Requirements: This course is conducted as an NRA America’s Rifle Challenge clinic and\, as such\, the AR-15 is an ideal rifle to bring. However\, any safe semi-automatic carbine can be used (Mini-14\, AK-47\, Tavor\, etc.). \nRequired Rifle Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Basic Defensive Rifle equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least four (8) magazines for your carbine (more is better)\ntwo (2) mag pouches to hold your spare rifle magazines (chest rig or gun belt)\nsling for your rifle (a 2-point adjustable sling is recommended although a 1-point sling will work fine if that is your preference; the US GI sling is probably not ideal for this event)\n\nPistol Requirements: A safe\, modern semi-automatic pistol (Glock\, Smith & Wesson M&P\, etc.) is also required. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nThe following are a good set of guidelines for an appropriate pistol for this event: \n\na medium-frame or large-frame pistol (e.g.\, Glock 19/Glock 17 or similar)\nmake sure your pistol is in good working order; if in doubt\, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith or armorer. A pistol that malfunctions constantly will get you plenty of practice addressing malfunctions but not much practice with the drills\nleave the brand new pistol you bought the day before the event at home\n\nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your pistol for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \nRequired Pistol Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Defensive Pistol equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nmagazines or speed loaders: bring at least THREE (more is better\, especially if you are using a pistol with a capacity of less than 10 rounds)\nholster: a strong side OWB holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle\, shoulder or small-of-back holsters). Your holster MUST hold your firearm securely without letting it move around on your hip; this will necessitate a holster that attaches at TWO POINTS to your gun belt; your holster should have sufficient retention to keep your firearm secure if you are rolling around on the ground.\ngun belt: you will have your pistol on your hip for the entire day. It will seem heavier as the day goes on and a good\, sturdy gun belt will minimize that feeling. A standard belt isn’t going to cut it here; spend a couple of dollars on a quality gun belt if you don’t already have one.\ntwo (2) mag pouches to hold your spare pistol magazines\n\nRequired Equipment: \n\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n50 lbs rucksack or backpack\n\nOptional Equipment: \n\nmagazine dump pouch\ncase for your rifle\ncase for your pistol\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nknee/elbow pads (we will be shooting and moving)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nAdvanced Defensive Rifle Overview: This class is physically demanding. We will be on our feet much of the day\, moving between various positions on the range. We will be shooting from different positions throughout the day. In addition you will be required to carry weight between stations and fire carrying weight. \nYou need to hydrate several days prior to the event and arrive “sorted out” ready to train! \nThe training will be fast pasted safety is paramount you will need to be in the correct “mindset” for training. \nThis is the cumulative class for Defensive Rifle; you will put all of your skills to the test. We will present a subject\, conduct practice\, and execute a series of tasks in preparation for the qualifying events. \nThe qualifying events will not be given to you until we start. Bring your A game!!!! \n\nsome will be scored shooting events\nsome will be physical shooting events\nsome I might invent on the spot!\n\nThe goal is to push yourself safely to the limits of your ability! \nWin a Signed Copy of “Lone Survivor”\nRevere’s Riders includes relevant American history\, often from the Revolutionary War period\, as an added element to many of our firearms training events. For Advanced Defensive Rifle\, we will be giving away a SIGNED copy of Marcus Luttrell’s “Lone Survivor“. The book was later made into a film by the same name. \nMarcus is the recipient of the Navy Cross in recognition of his heroism in Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan in 2005. Marcus was the only survivor of SEAL Team 10’s engagement with a superior force in the remote Afghan mountains. Marcus nearly died from injuries sustained during the battle but was found and nursed back to health by Pashtun villagers in the area. His Seal Team 10 teammates were all killed during the fighting. \nMarcus returned home and founded the Lone Survivor Foundation in 2010 to “restore\, empower\, and renew hope for our wounded warriors and their families through health\, wellness\, and therapeutic support.” He later founded Team Never Quit whose mission “embodies the heart of a warrior\, men and women in all walks of life who have faced incredible hardship but have chosen not only to survive\, but to learn from the experience and make themselves and those around them stronger for it. Our commitment is to honor those who have fallen\, stand with those who have survived\, and share their stories that we might inspire others to Never Quit.”
