Firing in this course will focus on the close quarters environment from contact to 600 yards. The focus is on short range marksmanship with opportunities to make shots at longer distances. \nThis class is moderately physically demanding. We will be on our feet much of the day\, moving between various stations on the range. We will be shooting from different positions throughout the day. \nAttendees should arrive for registration at the club house on Saturday around 8:45 am. Class starts promptly at 9:00! \nTopics of instruction may include the following:\n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nCarbine parts and operation & ammunition\nCarbine zero and trajectory (including which zero to use)\nTailoring the ABCs of firing the shot in the close quarters environment\nFiring Positions: Standing/Kneeling/Prone\, Over Barricade\, Supported/Unsupported\, Field-expedient Rests\nSituational Awareness and Scanning\nMagazine Changes (Emergency\, Administrative/Tactical)\nExecuting Controlled Pairs\nRecoil Management\nClearing Malfunctions/Stoppages\nMovement\nUse of the sling\, rests\, barricades and other field-expedient methods to support shooting stability\nIntroduction to Field Shooting and using the carbine to make hits at long distance\nGear/Kit setup and optimization\n\nCQB ’75 – The Close Quarters Battle at the Jason Russell House\nThe bloodiest battle on the first day of the American Revolutionary War took place on the estate of Jason Russell in Arlington\, MA\, just outside of Boston. Arlington\, at the time\, was known as Menotomy and more colonial militiamen were killed at Monotomy than any other place that day. \nBritish Redcoats were retreating back to Boston after being trounced at Concord’s North Bridge and Merriam’s Corner when they encountered heavy resistance along the road. They’d sent out flanking parties to clear the route and one of those parties captured Russell and several other militiamen in the open. \nHear what happened next as this exciting tale is woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events! \n \n  \nAdditional Information: \nThe club allows for camping/bunking on site for instructors and participants.  You can throw up a tent or bring your cot and a pillow and join us in the club house.  You will have access to the bathrooms in the clubhouse throughout the weekend.  You will also have access to showers and to the kitchen for breakfast and dinner meal prep. \nLunch will be offered by the club for a contribution on Saturday and if there are enough leftovers (usually there are)\, it will be offered again on Sunday. Think dogs\, burgers\, chips and a drink.  Or\, you can pack your lunch of choice. You should also plan to join us for movie night on Saturday on the club’s big screen.  Popcorn provided. \nThere will be a $10.00 range fee for all non-club members. This will be collected at registration on Saturday morning. \nQuestions\, comments\, concerns\, etc.\, please contact the Event Director below. See you on the firing line! \n

Only ONE (“1”) Swag Bag and ONE (“1”) Give Away will be provided per event participant per weekend regardless of whether an event participant signs up for one or both days. \nRifle Overview (Saturday\, Sep 5)\nThis event will follow the outline of Basic Rifle\, our signature offering based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” This event is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels and lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Instruction will include classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\n\nRifle Prerequisites: None \nEstimated Rifle Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds rifle ammunition. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nRequired Rifle Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Rifle equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is preferred; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nPistol Overview (Sunday\, Sep 6)\nThis event will follow the outline of Basic Pistol\, our introductory pistol marksmanship course based on traditional American service pistol fundamentals. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a practical stance. Basic Pistol includes classroom and range time learning to shoot handguns. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nPistol parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nTwo Handed Grip & Stance: Isoceles\, benchrest\, and low ready positions (Weaver may also be taught)\nNatural Point of Aim\nShot Group Analysis\nClearing Common Stoppages\nWhittemore’s Stand Pistol Qualifier\nClassic WW2 Pistol Qualification Test (optional)\n\nPistol Prerequisites: None \nEstimated Pistol Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds of pistol ammunition. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe pistol with at least five round capacity to fully participate in this course. Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nRequired Pistol Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Pistol equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nWe will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in the class activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your pistol\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nSpectators are welcome but will be asked to remain a safe distance from the firing line (ear protection is required for all spectators; eye protection is optional). \nYour ticket price includes range fees and lunch. \nEvent Sponsors
