Participants will begin with learning basic rifle marksmanship with a rimfire rifle on a 25-yard range\, then take their rimfire rifle to longer “known distance” (100 yards) adding factors\, and then prove their mastery of the previously taught skills using a centerfire “service rifle” out to 400 yards. \nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: Bringing additional ammunition is never a bad idea. Same type and lot # strongly urged; consistency is a virtue especially when shooting at longer distances! \nRimfire: about 1000 rounds of .22LR (40gr standard velocity [~1050fps]\, packed in at least five 1qt freezer bags; Gemtech\, Aguila\, Federal Gold Medal\, CCI Standard Velocity are all good brands). \nCenterfire: at least 200 rounds of quality (Mag-Tech and Frontier are favorites of mine in 55/62/75gr) ball ammunition appropriate to your centerfire rifle. \nIf you need to ship ammunition to the event\, please contact the Event Director for shipping arrangements. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in .22LR. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes (for example\, the Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 795)\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. For your centerfire “service rifle”\, the ubiquitous MSR/AR-15 is overwhelmingly the favorite. By centerfire standards\, both the platform and the 5.56x45mm ammunition are economical and shooter-friendly. \nYour rifles should have provision for sling attachment on the bottom of the rifle stock. Sling swivels that can accommodate 1¼” inch slings are preferred (Talon is my favorite brand; much more rugged and no more expensive than the competition). \nA backup rifle is recommended in case problems with your primary rifle arise (no loaner rifles will be available). This RCT is intended to challenge both shooter and rifle; finding your rifle is not up to the challenge halfway through can be an unpleasant surprise. \nSight Requirements: This event is designed for scoped rifles though you may attend with other sights. Ideally\, a click-adjustable scope (around 4× fixed magnification or 2-7×\, 3-9×\, etc. variable magnification) AND GI-style iron sights are both available\, maximizing your experience. We will be making sight adjustments throughout the day so having a click-adjustable scope will enhance your experience. Either MOA or Mils are acceptable. \nFor many rifles (to include the Ruger 10/22)\, Tech-Sights makes GI-style iron sights which can be retrofitted. \nRECOMMENDED: \n\n\n\nQuality Scope — cheap scopes will fail you; not if\, but when. Your scope doesn’t have to be expensive\, but a quality brand (these usually include a lifetime warranty) will stack the odds in your favor. If unsure about what to get\, A&A Optics are good people to turn to.\n\n\n\nNOT RECOMMENDED: \n\n\n\nRed Dots — the dot will obscure small targets. Additionally\, red dots lack a reticle for use in measuring angular distances necessary for rangefinding severely handicapping you in the “unknown distance” (UKD) portion of this event.\n“Hunting Style” Iron Sights — the “hunting sights” that come stock with most rifles will not give you the precise sight picture needed for this event. We will be on the 600 yard range\, setting our firing line up at the 300 yard line. Be prepared to stage your gear about 350yds away from the parking lot. \nShooters will engage multiple steel targets with their centerfire rifle with distances ranging from 50-300 yards. From there\, you will safe and ground your rifle and move over to your awaiting shotgun and engage a single silhouette target about 50 yards away with a slug. Then you will engage small reactive steel 5-15 yards away with birdshot. Once complete\, you will safe and ground your shotgun and move on to the pistol portion of the course. At the pistol stage you will engage cardboard silhouette targets from around a barricade using one hand only. Each cardboard target will be engaged twice (with only “hits” counting in the marked portion of the target). Be prepared to shoot both right and left-handed at ranges of 3-10 yards. You will then move on to a pair of Texas star steel reactive targets and a single silhouette with a gong flapper (only a hit on the flapper portion counts). \nYour round count for a perfect round will be: \n\n10 rounds rifle\n1 slug\n8 birdshot\n31 pistol\n\nSaturday will start with a safety briefing for the weekend.  Then we will provide an introduction to 3-gun events. This will include a review of the history of 3-gun\, overview of participation classes available and the related rules\, and how a typical event is organized. That will be followed with instructions on the firearms handling procedures you will need/use on the range and introductory tips on how to navigate the various stages.  Then we will move to the firing line and walk through the stages without firearms. Then we will shoot a live fire practice without time pressure.  Sunday will entail shooting the course for time as an actual event. You can expect to get multiple attempts at the course for time on Sunday. \nSpots are limited to 10 shooters to accommodate multiple runs for each shooter. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Rifle equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\ncase for your rifle\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Shooting will be at 50 feet. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is preferred; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar (loaner shooting mats are typically available at the event)\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: the club has a number of loaner firearms suitable for use at this event (Smith&Wesson M&P 15-22s). Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events.
