SUMMARY:Basic Rifle — Two Day (Milan\, OH)
DESCRIPTION:Basic Rifle Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds. \nRifle Requirements: This will be .22lr rimfire only event.  We can provide rifles for any participants who need one.  These loaners will be scoped magazine-fed semi-automatic \,22lr rifles.   You are welcome to bring your own if you wish and we can accommodate many types of rifles (tube-fed pump or semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.). Just be sure that the rifle you bring is in good working condition and is chambered for .22lr. Bring at least two magazines for your rifle. And\, if you plan to bring your own rifle\, please note that in the comment field when you register. \nWe are asking that you bring your own ammunition. You can expect to need around 200-250 rounds of .22 lr ammo for the day. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Rifle equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is strongly preferred as our instruction will be specific to this sling; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (avoid loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn. We also recommend long sleeves for the same reason.)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: This is our signature offering\, based on traditional American rifle craft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Basic Rifle includes classroom and range time learning rifle marksmanship skills. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone position and time permitting\, instructions on other positions (seated\, kneeling and off-hand) to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nDuring our breaks you will hear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile British retreat on “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nRemember to bring a lunch as there will not be time to go out for anything. \nAdditional Range Information\nEvent is being held at Erie County Conservation League\, 815 Mason Road E. Milan\, Oh 44846. \nNOTE: there will be a $10.00 range fee for the event for non-ECCL members.  Please bring cash with you\, we will collect this at registration.
