SUMMARY:Basic Rifle — Two Day - Gibsonburg\, OH
DESCRIPTION:  \nBasic Rifle Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in your preferred caliber. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nSome events will have caliber limitations due to restrictions imposed upon us by the range hosting the event. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Basic Rifle equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is strongly preferred as our instruction will be specific to this sling; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nOverview: This is our signature offering\, based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Basic Rifle includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\nTwo Day Only: Intermediate calculation of minutes of angle for precise sight adjustments at all ranges\nTwo Day Only: Introduction to Field Shooting\, to include basic ballistics and live firing to longer distances (if the range facility permits)\nTwo Day Only: As time allows\, there may be additional opportunities to engage in challenging competitions to include the Rifle Qualifier\, Classic Carbine Qualification\, Battle Rattle\, and/or Field Shoot\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nIf you need any loaner equipment\, please contact the Event Director and he will coordinate. \nAdditional Range Information\nOur history presentations are based on “Paul Revere’s Ride” by David Hackett Fischer\, a thoroughly researched recounting of the events leading up to the historic skirmishes between Patriots and Red Coats at Concord and Lexington on April 19\, 1775. \n\n“The true story of Paul Revere’s ride is very different from the popular myth of the lone rider of the Revolution…This is a tale of contingency\, with great events hanging in the narrow balance. It is the story of free people\, making hard choices. Most of all\, it is about America’s half-remembered heritage of collective action in the cause of freedom. When Paul Revere and his many friends alarmed the Middlesex countryside\, they were carrying that message for us.”

We will be on the 600 yard range\, setting our firing line up at the 300 yard line. Be prepared to stage your gear about 350yds away from the parking lot. \nShooters will engage multiple steel targets with their centerfire rifle with distances ranging from 50-300 yards. From there\, you will safe and ground your rifle and move over to your awaiting shotgun and engage a single silhouette target about 50 yards away with a slug. Then you will engage small reactive steel 5-15 yards away with birdshot. Once complete\, you will safe and ground your shotgun and move on to the pistol portion of the course. At the pistol stage you will engage cardboard silhouette targets from around a barricade using one hand only. Each cardboard target will be engaged twice (with only “hits” counting in the marked portion of the target). Be prepared to shoot both right and left-handed at ranges of 3-10 yards. You will then move on to a set of steel reactive targets and a single silhouette with a gong flapper (only a hit on the flapper portion counts). \nYour round count for a perfect round will be: \n\n10 rounds rifle\n1 slug\n8 birdshot\n31 pistol\n\nSaturday will start with a safety briefing for the weekend.  Then we will provide an introduction to 3-gun events. This will include a review of the history of 3-gun\, overview of participation classes available and the related rules\, and how a typical event is organized. That will be followed with instructions on the firearms handling procedures you will need/use on the range and introductory tips on how to navigate the various stages.  Then we will move to the firing line and walk through the stages without firearms. Then we will shoot a live fire practice without time pressure.  Sunday will entail shooting the course for time as an actual event. You can expect to get multiple attempts at the course for time on Sunday. \nSpots are limited to 10 shooters to accommodate multiple runs for each shooter. There will be a range fee of $10 for the event. Please bring cash on Saturday for this fee.  We will start with registration/safety brief/walkthrough at 9:00am both days. A lunch will be available for donation both days. We will go until 3:30pm and then clean up. Help with clean-up will be greatly appreciated. All targets need returned to storage and all brass\, hulls\, and wads cleaned up from the range. \nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nDuring our breaks\, you will hear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 18 mile “battle road” as the British retreated back to Boston. \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout both days of the event. \nAdditional Event Information\nThis is a two day event.  The club allows shooters to either tent camp onsite or bunk in the clubhouse for the weekend. Your event director and several of the instructors will be onsite for the entire weekend so you will have company if you choose to camp with us. If you do choose camp\, you will have access to the restrooms and the kitchen in the main clubhouse for the weekend. \nReminder; there will be a $10/person range fee for ALL attendees for the weekend. Please bring cash with you to cover this fee.

Shots will be made at reduced distances of 25-200 yards\, effectively simulating the difficulty of shooting a centerfire rifle at 100-500 yards. \nAll firing in this course will be done from the prone position off a rest and within 200 yards. We will focus on attaining proper come-ups for your rifle/ammo combination. You will save time & money by learning the concepts at this course and then applying them when shooting bigger rifles at longer distances while hunting\, PRS-style shooting\, defensive carbine\, etc. \nThis class is not physically demanding but we will be walking 200yds and getting into and out of the prone position several times throughout the day. \nAttendees should arrive for registration at 8:30 am. Class starts promptly at 9:00! \nTopics of instruction will include the following:\n\nField Shooting to Known Distances: Target Detection/Target Identification\nExternal Ballistics: Effects of Wind\, Temperature and Humidity\nBasic Ballistics Calculations: Using Minutes of Angle (MOA) or Milliradians (MRAD/mils)\nRange Estimation: Field-Expedient methods of determining Range\nData Collection: How to set up a “Dope Book”\n\nShots that Changed History!\nFrom the involvement of Daniel Morgan’s men at the siege of Boston in 1775 to the pivotal shots made by Timothy Murphy at the battle of Yorktown in 1781\, Colonial Marksmen made shots that shifted the course of the American Revolutionary War and\, ultimately\, changed the course of world history! \nHear the tale of these shots – made using the same skills learned in this clinic – woven throughout the day’s course of instruction. \n

SUMMARY:Intermediate Pistol - Two Day - (ECCL) May 30&31\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Intermediate Pistol Overview\nPrerequisites: This course has no formal prerequisites\, but we recommend that you attend our Basic Pistol offering prior to joining us for this event.  Intermediate Pistol is a fast-paced program covering a lot of instructional points. The course is designed to improve marksmanship fundamentals for our attendees. We suggest that you should have taken some type of entry-level class already and you should already be familiar with the safe handling and operation of your pistol. If you are totally new to firearms/pistols\, you may be better served to attend our Basic Pistol course which has a slower pace. \nAttendees between ages 14-18 years must be accompanied by a parent for the entire event.  If under age of 14\, contact the Event Director to review their skills and get approval for their participation. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: You will need a safe\, functioning 22lr semi-automatic pistol for your work on Saturday and Sunday morning.  We use .22lr pistols during the instructions and related drills as the lower power/recoil allows students to adopt their fundamentals faster.  You will need about 300 rnds/day for that pistol.  If you wish to also bring your centerfire/carry pistol on Sunday\, there will be the opportunity to work with it on Sunday afternoon and apply what you learned on Saturday to that pistol as well. \nPistol Requirements: You will need a safe semi-automatic pistol with a minimum of two (2) functioning magazines of 10 rounds or greater capacity (extra magazines recommended)\, to fully participate in this course. Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Pistol equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nat least two magazines for your pistol\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nappropriate clothing.  This is an Outdoor event so choose appropriate clothing (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, and short or no sleeves are discouraged as hot brass will be flying from your neighbor and it can lodge against the skin and cause a burn). Also\, keep an eye on the weather reports\, we shoot rain or shine so you may need your rain gear.\n\nWe will not be drawing from the holster in this class and we will run a “cold range.” You will not need a holster to participate in event activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your pistol\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: loaner firearms suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nOverview: This course\, based on traditional American service pistol fundamentals is based on a “Hits Count” system. This course covers a  sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a practical stance. Intermediate Pistol includes classroom and range time with the goal to improve your pistol marksmanship skills. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nPistol parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nTwo Handed Grip & Stance: Isoceles and Weaver\, benchrest\, and shooting from low ready positions.\nNatural Point of Aim\nShot Group Analysis\nClearing Common Stoppages\nWhittemore’s Stand Pistol Qualifier\nClassic WW2 Pistol Qualification Test (optional)\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nDuring the event breaks\, we will share the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. \nAttendees should arrive for registration at 8:45 am. SUMMARY:Intermediate Rifle-Rimfire KD– Two Day ECCL (Milan\, OH)
DESCRIPTION:This is a RIMFIRE-ONLY event; we will only allow rifles chambered in rimfire cartridges. Ballistics info provided will be focused solely on .22lr ammo. Please leave your centerfire rifle at home.  \nIntermediate Rifle-Rimfire KD Overview\nThis clinic is designed to challenge attendees to accurately shoot their 22lr rifles to known distances out to 200yds.  You will learn the trajectory\, come-ups\, external ballistics and field shooting challenges with the combination of your rifle and your .22lr ammo. This will be best achieved with a scoped rifle although open sights are certainly acceptable. \nPrerequisites: Suggested — RR Basic Rifle course or previous experience with similar programs such as  CMP’s Rimfire Sporter or other .22lr distance shooting programs. \nIf you are unfamiliar with the standing/seated/prone positions and the proper use of the GI loop sling\, you will be frustrated at this event. Position instructions and proper sling usage will be only briefly reviewed.  \nEstimated Ammunition Required: Bring 200 rounds/day. It is important that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same bullet weight\, velocity\, and manufacturer) for this event. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in .22lr (centerfire rifles will not be allowed). You can bring your semi-auto\, bolt or lever 22lr rifle for this event. \nPlease make an effort to get a known zero prior to attending (25 yds is a good starting point).  We will be sighting at each distance (50 yds \,100 yds\, 150 yds\, and 200 yds) on Saturday so you can learn your elevation adjustments. Wind corrections will also be covered at the event. \nRequired Equipment: Please plan to bring the following: \n\ncase for your rifle\nsling for your rifle (the US GI sling will work perfectly for this event\, but if you bring another style\, it should be an easily adjustable sling)\nat least two magazines of ten (10) or more round capacity for your rifle (extras magazines are a good idea)\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nweather appropriate clothing (February weather in Ohio can be anything)\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nshooting mat\nhigh powered binoculars or spotting scope\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: An Intermediate Rifle event picks up where the Basic Rifle clinic leaves off. Students\, having mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship at 25 yards\, learn to apply their skills at greater distances. Most importantly\, students will learn about their rifle\, their ammo — and their skill level at real distances beyond 25 yards. \nThis “Rimfire-Only” Intermediate Rifle event is focused on practical shooting under field conditions against targets out to 200 yds with a .22lr rifle. We will review the basics of IMC\, the ballistics of the .22lr cartridge at various distances\, and other considerations for shooting your .22lr rifle past 25 yards. \nThis event is scheduled for November so the weather can be cold and potentially wet.  Please plan on dressing accordingly.  The firing line is covered but you need to prepare for bad weather as we post/pull targets down range. \nThe Spirit of 1776\nPicking up where “The Midnight Ride” concludes\, the Spirit of 1776 traces the first full year of the American war for independence. From the high point of the Evacuation of Boston to the lows of early winter of 1776\, follow the Continental Army as they are forced to flee across New York and New Jersey. Learn about the nearly insurmountable challenges they faced and the hope\, faith and daring that pulled victory out of certain defeat. \nIf you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to face down a huge amphibious armada invading New York City\, shiver around a campfire reading about “summer soldiers and sunshine patriots\,” or gamble it all on a desperate crossing of the Delaware River for “Liberty or Death” then you need to hear the Spirit of 1776. \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nThere is a $10/person range fee for non-members that is payable on the day of the event. Please bring cash. \nAdditional Range Information\nPlease plan to bring a lunch for both days.  Parking is available at the range.
