Note that centerfire rifle calibers will not be allowed due to restrictions for the range we will be using. Loaner rifles are generally available; if you need a loaner rifle\, please indicate such when filling out your ticket information. \nMagazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. DESCRIPTION:Pistol 145 Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Revere’s Riders Pistol 100 or similar. This is not an introductory course and participants are expected to be capable of the following: \n\nhandling their firearm in a safe manner\nkeeping shots within a 6″ square from approximately 7 yards\n\nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nThe following are a good set of guidelines for an appropriate pistol for this event: \n\nbring the pistol you intend to use for concealed carry; leave the brand new pistol you bought the day before the event at home\na rimfire pistol can be used for practice during some of the drills with a transition to your centerfire pistol to complete the drill (see the section on Rimfire Pistols below)\na medium-frame pistol is often ideal for concealed carry (e.g.\, Glock 19 or similar); smaller pistols are difficult to shoot accurately and larger pistols are uncomfortable to carry all day long\nmake sure your pistol is in good working order; if in doubt\, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith or armorer. A pistol that malfunctions constantly will get you plenty of practice addressing malfunctions but not much practice with the drills\n\nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your pistol for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \n\n\n\n\nRimfire Pistols: Due to the current cost and lack of availability of centerfire ammunition\, rimfire pistols will be allowed at this event subject to the following: \n\nsuitable centerfire/rimfire pistol combinations\, in order of preference\, are:\n\npairs of pistols such as the Glock 19 and Glock 44 that are nearly identical in size and function\npistols that are not as similar as the Glock 19/Glock 44 but still properly fit the same holster\nyour concealed carry centerfire pistol along with a .22LR conversion kit that is easy enough to swap in/out in a short period of time (<1 minute) without tools (e.g.\, a Glock 19 and the Advantage Arms .22LR Conversion Kit)\nseparate centerfire and rimfire pistols along with appropriate holsters for both (in a pinch\, you will be able to get by without a proper holster for your rimfire pistol)\n\n\nbring 250 rounds of quality rimfire ammunition (be picky about your rimfire ammunition as the cheap stuff is usually not very reliable; you can’t go wrong with CCI Mini-Mag\, Fiocchi\, or Federal)\nbring THREE (or more) magazines for your rimfire pistol (this is in addition to the THREE or more magazines for your centerfire pistol)\nappropriate holsters for both pistols (assuming your rimfire pistol does not properly fit your centerfire pistol holster)\n\nIT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SATISFACTORILY COMPLETE THIS COURSE WITH ONLY A RIMFIRE PISTOL! \nDuring the course\, you will use your rimfire pistol as initial practice for a given drill and then transition to your centerfire pistol to demonstrate competency.\n\n\n\n\nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Pistol 145 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nmagazines or speed loaders: bring at least THREE (more is better\, especially if you are using a pistol with a capacity of less than 10 rounds)\nholster: a strong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle\, shoulder or small-of-back holsters). DESCRIPTION:Pistol 209 Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Revere’s Riders Pistol 145 (or similar) or approval by instructor. This is not an introductory course and participants are expected to be capable of the following: \n\nhandling their firearm in a safe manner\nkeeping shots within a 6″ square from approximately 10 yards\n\nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. We will not wait for you; plan to be early. \nBase Firearms Policy \nCAJMTC firearms policy—NO LOADED FIREARMS PERMITTED ON BASE. Concealed carry is NOT ALLOWED on base; you may only load a firearm while on a designated range. Before you proceed to to the base entrance and attempt to pass through security\, make sure that all firearms in your vehicle and on your person (don’t forget your concealed carry sidearm) are unloaded\, in a secure case and separated from your ammunition. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nDirections to Range Control \nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury “delivery gate” to access the military side of the base (major construction is under way at the “main gate”). \nWhen asked\, tell gate security that you are there for the Revere’s Riders event along with any other information gate security requests. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways (if the range is “hot”\, these should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. \nRange Control can be reached by either of two routes: \n\nRED highlighted route — continue south on Schoolhouse Road until you reach the four-way stop at County Line Road; turn left on County Line Road and proceed to the four-way stop at Eggleston Street; Range Control will be on the north-east corner of Eggleston and County Line Road\nBLUE highlighted route — turn left at the first four-way stop onto Headquarters Road; proceed to the four-way stop at Eggleston Street and turn right; Range Control will be on your left just before you reach County Line Road\n\n \nOvernight Accommodations\nCivilian lodging is available on base for those who wish to stay overnight. This is not an introductory course and participants are expected to be capable of the following: \n\nhandling their firearm in a safe manner\nkeeping shots within a 6″ square from approximately 10 yards\n\nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nThe following are a good set of guidelines for an appropriate pistol for this event: \n\nbring the pistol you intend to use for concealed carry; leave the brand new pistol you bought the day before the event at home\na rimfire pistol can be used for practice during some of the drills with a transition to your centerfire pistol to complete the drill (see the section on Rimfire Pistols below)\na medium-frame pistol is often ideal for concealed carry (e.g.\, Glock 19 or similar); smaller pistols are difficult to shoot accurately and larger pistols are uncomfortable to carry all day long\nmake sure your pistol is in good working order; if in doubt\, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith or armorer. A pistol that malfunctions constantly will get you plenty of practice addressing malfunctions but not much practice with the drills\n\nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your pistol for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \n\n\n\n\nRimfire Pistols: Due to the current cost and lack of availability of centerfire ammunition\, rimfire pistols will be allowed at this event subject to the following: \n\nsuitable centerfire/rimfire pistol combinations\, in order of preference\, are:\n\npairs of pistols such as the Glock 19 and Glock 44 that are nearly identical in size and function\npistols that are not as similar as the Glock 19/Glock 44 but still properly fit the same holster\nyour concealed carry centerfire pistol along with a .22LR conversion kit that is easy enough to swap in/out in a short period of time (<1 minute) without tools (e.g.\, a Glock 19 and the Advantage Arms .22LR Conversion Kit)\nseparate centerfire and rimfire pistols along with appropriate holsters for both (in a pinch\, you will be able to get by without a proper holster for your rimfire pistol)\n\n\nbring 250 rounds of quality rimfire ammunition (be picky about your rimfire ammunition as the cheap stuff is usually not very reliable; you can’t go wrong with CCI Mini-Mag\, Fiocchi\, or Federal)\nbring THREE (or more) magazines for your rimfire pistol (this is in addition to the THREE or more magazines for your centerfire pistol)\nappropriate holsters for both pistols (assuming your rimfire pistol does not properly fit your centerfire pistol holster)\n\nIT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SATISFACTORILY COMPLETE THIS COURSE WITH ONLY A RIMFIRE PISTOL! \nDuring the course\, you will use your rimfire pistol as initial practice for a given drill and then transition to your centerfire pistol to demonstrate competency.\n\n\n\n\nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Pistol 145 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nmagazines or speed loaders: bring at least THREE (more is better\, especially if you are using a pistol with a capacity of less than 10 rounds)\nholster: a strong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle\, shoulder or small-of-back holsters). Either IWB (“inside the waistband”) or OWB (“outside the waistband”) are fine\, but the holster you intend to use for concealed carry would be preferred. An OWB holster is often easier to use if you have never drawn from a holster before but will still allow you to participate fully in the drills we will conduct. The crucial aspect is that your holster MUST hold your firearm securely without letting it move around on your hip; this will necessitate a holster that attaches at TWO POINTS to your gun belt; there are a few holsters that attach to your gun belt at one point and still hold your firearm securely\, but they generally attach over an extended length of your belt effectively simulating two points of attachment.\ngun belt: you will have your pistol on your hip for the entire day. It will seem heavier as the day goes on and a good\, sturdy gun belt will minimize that feeling. A standard belt isn’t going to cut it here; spend a couple of dollars on a quality gun belt if you don’t already have one.\nmagazine carrier (you can get by with putting spare magazines in a pocket\, but a magazine carrier is much preferred)\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your pistol\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Pistol 145 begins with an overview of the range rules\, safety procedures and quick reminder of the fundamentals from basic pistol. DESCRIPTION:Rifle 223 (Carbine) Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Rifle 125 or similar class. \nIf you have not attended Rifle 125\, then you should be able to reliably hit a 10″ paper plate from the standing position out to 25 yards\, kneeling at 50 yards\, and prone at 100 yards. You should be able to consistently hit a 3×5 index card at 15 yards while standing. You should be familiar with basic operation of your carbine. If you cannot meet the accuracy suggestion then you may be frustrated at carbine class and be better served learning the fundamentals of marksmanship at a Rifle 125 clinic. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: 300 rounds/day \nRifle Requirements: This course is conducted as an NRA America’s Rifle Challenge clinic and\, as such\, the AR-15 is an ideal rifle to bring. This is not an introductory event and involves quickly engaging “pop-up” targets. No formal instruction will be provided. \nPistol and Ammunition Required: A drop-safe pistol (centerfire is recommended but rimfire is fine as well) in any of the following calibers: .22LR\, 9x19mm\, .38/.357 Magnum\, .40 S&W and .45 ACP ONLY. If you bring a pistol chambered in any other caliber\, be prepared to be a spectator (this is a Camp Atterbury restriction we are required to follow as civilians on a military base\, not a Revere’s Riders restriction). \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nYou should bring\, at a minimum\, 500 rounds of ammunition (more is always better). Drawing from the holster will be allowed at this event for those that have the proper holster and can demonstrate a safe draw and re-holster of their pistol. \nThose who do not wish to draw from the holster may begin each course of fire from the compressed- or low-ready position. \n \nNo Formal Instruction \nWhile there will be no formal instruction at this event\, experienced firearms instructors will be present and can provide limited instruction as needed. Absolutely no refunds will be given for any other reason. \nAdditional Range Information\nArrival Time \nYou MUST Arrive On Time\nPlan to arrive NO LATER than 0745. Anyone arriving later than this will not be allowed to participate in the event and your event fees will not be refunded. This is due to the need to meet at Range Control and proceed to the range as a group. We will not wait for you; plan to be early. \nBase Firearms Policy \nCAJMTC firearms policy—NO LOADED FIREARMS PERMITTED ON BASE. Concealed carry is NOT ALLOWED on base and you may only load a firearm while on a designated range. Before you proceed to to the base entrance and attempt to pass through security\, make sure that all firearms in your vehicle and on your person (don’t forget your concealed carry sidearm) are unloaded\, in a secure case and separated from your ammunition. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nIt is recommended that you do NOT inform base security that you have firearms in your vehicle unless specifically asked. It is also recommended that you wait until you are physically on the firing range to load your magazines to avoid any appearance of being “loaded and ready for action” while on-base. \nDirections to Range Control\nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury “delivery gate” to access the military side of the base (major construction is under way at the “main gate”). The “delivery gate” is at Schoolhouse Road to the west of the “main gate” and there is signage on Hospital Road to that effect. \nBase security is now being manned by US Army MPs and they should be treated with the utmost respect. Answer truthfully any questions you are asked; provide any and all identification or paperwork requested (make sure you have your drivers license and proof of insurance with you). \nWhen asked\, tell gate security that you are going to “Range Control”. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways; if the range is “hot”\, such roads should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. \nThere are two acceptable routes to Range Control indicated in blue and red on the map below (note that these are not the most direct routes; Camp Atterbury command has requested all on-base civilian to use these routes to avoid the cantonment areas where Afghan refugees are housed): \n \nRange Control is located just north-east of the intersection of County Line Road and Eggelston Street diagonally across from Himsel Airfield. \nUNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you proceed past any of the placarded gates which indicate entry to the controlled range areas of the base without first checking in with the Event Director at Range Control and obtaining a Camp Atterbury Downrange Pass. \nOvernight Accommodations\nCivilian on-base lodging is NOT available at this time (again\, due to the presence of Afghan refugees). DESCRIPTION:This is a private event for VCM and One Shepherd members ONLY (if you are not a member of either of these two groups and purchase a ticket anyway\, your order will be cancelled and your money refunded). \nThis event will also be .22LR ONLY (leave the “big boy” rifles at home). \nNo on-site registration for this event; pre-registration via the website only. \nRifleman’s Continuum Training Overview\nRifleman’s Continuum Training (RCT) condenses three separate Revere’s Riders rifle marksmanship courses into a single five-day event. Participants will begin with learning basic rifle marksmanship with a rimfire rifle on a 25-yard range\, then take their rimfire rifle to longer “known distance”\, and finally learn techniques for field expedient range estimation to get hits at “unknown distance”. \nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 1000 rounds of .22LR (40gr standard velocity [~1050fps]\, packed in at least five 1qt freezer bags; Gemtech\, Aguila\, Federal Gold Medal\, CCI Standard Velocity are all good brands; bringing additional ammunition is never a bad idea). Same type and lot # strongly urged; consistency is a virtue especially when shooting at longer distances! \nIf you need to ship ammunition to the event\, please contact the Event Director for shipping arrangements. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in .22LR. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes (for example\, the Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 795)\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. Your rifle should have provision for sling attachment on the bottom of the rifle stock. Sling swivels that can accommodate 1¼” inch slings are preferred (Talon is my favorite brand; much more rugged and no more expensive than the competition). \nA backup rifle is recommended in case problems with your primary rifle arise (no loaner rifles will be available). This RCT is intended to challenge both shooter and rifle; finding your rifle is not up to the challenge halfway through can be an unpleasant surprise. \nSight Requirements: This event is designed for scoped rifles though you may attend with other sights. Ideally\, a click-adjustable scope (around 4× fixed magnification or 2-7×\, 3-9×\, etc. variable magnification). We will be making sight adjustments throughout the day so having a click-adjustable scope will enhance your experience. Either MOA or Mils are acceptable. \nRECOMMENDED: \n\n\n\nQuality Scope — cheap scopes will fail you; not if\, but when. Your scope doesn’t have to be expensive\, but a quality brand (these usually include a lifetime warranty) will stack the odds in your favor. If unsure about what to get\, A&A Optics are good people to turn to.\n\n\n\nNOT RECOMMENDED: \n\n\n\nRed Dots — the dot will obscure small targets. Additionally\, red dots lack a reticle for use in measuring angular distances necessary for rangefinding severely handicapping you in the “unknown distance” (UKD) portion of this event.\nIron Sights — the “hunting sights” that come stock with most rifles will not give you the precise sight picture needed for this event. That said\, Tech-Sights makes a good quality aftermarket “GI style” peep & post sight that will fit many rifles\, give a better standard of accuracy\, and is appropriate for this event assuming your eyesight is sufficiently good to clearly see targets at distances of several hundred yards.\n\n\n\nRequired Equipment: Please plan to bring the following gear: \n\ncase for your rifle\ntowel or other cover for your rifle (protection from both rain and sun; black rifles get surprising hot when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time)\nrucksack/pack/etc. to carry all the below gear (we’ll be moving on the range throughout the day):\n\nmilitary-type LCE/webbing/782 gear is a good option for carrying frequently used gear on your person\na hydration backpack (“camelback” style) which can be used handsfree is an excellent option to carry your hydration supplies\n\n\nsturdy field-expedient rest (bipod\, sandbag\, pack\, bedroll\, etc.)\nsling for your rifle (a Magpul RLS\, US GI sling\, or M1907 sling are strongly preferred; “Ching” slings are also acceptable)\nshooting mat or something to lie on when shooting (camping mat\, rug/runner\, etc) is strongly recommended; nothing inflatable!\n\nlimited loaners available on a first come/first served basis; please CALL the Event Director to reserve.\n\n\nrifle cleaning gear:\n\nbore snake or rod\ncleaning solvent and oil\,\nappropriate cleaning brushes\nrags\, newspaper\, etc.\n\n\n8-10 magazines for your rifle is optimal; having at least 4 clear magazines allowing you to visually confirm loading status is also extremely helpful (if you don’t have that many\, bring whatever you do have)\nhigh powered binoculars\, spotting scope and/or electronic range finder (strongly recommended)\na way to take notes (Rite In The Rain is a popular option given that we’re working outdoors; spiral bound 3×5 cards that can be had cheap at department stores are also a great solution. Bring at least two notebooks\, in ziplock baggies for weather protection\, and plenty of pens)\nmarking pen (contractor grade Sharpie preferred)\ncompass (lensatic type preferred)\nprotractor and ruler\nclipboard\ncalculator (your phone probably has one that will be more than sufficient; however\, make sure whatever calculator you bring can be used through an entire day without needing to be plugged in to charge)\ntape measure (the fabric or soft plastic ones you find in the craft section are perfect; a small construction type will do)\nhearing protection (bring an extra set of hearing protection\, both headset and plugs\, in case you should need them)\neye protection\nlunch and snacks (light lunch of field-stable foods to avoid “food coma” afterwards)\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal; plan on 2 gallons/day)\nclothing appropriate for the weather over 5 days (count on rain\, sun\, heat\, bugs\, and cold; loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Rifle 125 includes classroom and range time firing on targets scaled to simulate 100-400yds fired at 25yds. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe rifle handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25yd “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25yd Rifle Qualifier\n\nRifle 262 Rimfire Known Distance (RFKD) Overview\nShot with .22LR rimfire rifles (Ruger 10/22\, Marlin 795\, etc) at 25/50/75/100yds to introduce the concepts of trajectory\, come-ups\, external ballistics\, and field shooting. Using rimfire rifles saves money and time over centerfire\, while allowing shooters to experience nearly the same practical considerations as shooting a centerfire rifle at longer distances. This clinic completes the training needed to make consistent hits at 500yds (the rifleman’s quarter mile). These are the skills used in CMP and NRA Highpower matches. \nRifle 262 Rimfire Unknown Distance (RFUKD) Overview\nShot with .22LR rimfire rifles (Ruger 10/22\, Marlin 795\, etc) out to 200yds adds the previously mentioned skills to the concepts of target detection and range estimation. Data is created\, then confirmed with good marksmanship. This allows the skills necessary in precision rifle (PRS\, NRL etc) programs to be taught on the cheap (.22LR ammunition at <$0.10/round vs .338 Lapua at >$5.00/round) and on ranges with limited distance. Rifle mounted optics get best results\, though the concepts can certainly be learned with iron sights. These are the skills that allow hunters in Wyoming to “get my elk at 1200 yards”. \nRange Fees\nRange fee payable on site (minimal to cover toilet cost and to be determined; cash only / exact change only). Event Director will notify you of the exact cost prior to the event. \nCamping\nOn-site camping is available at no charge. Camping is dry/primitive only. DESCRIPTION:This will be a special Patriot’s Day event to commemorate the birth of our nation on April 19th\, 1775 and to honor those who gave their lives for our Liberty on that day—thanks for joining us! \nThis will be a .22LR only event due to restrictions imposed upon us by the range hosting the event. \nRifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nAll participants MUST register online—no walk-ons are permitted. \nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in .22LR ONLY. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. SUMMARY:Rifle 223 (Carbine) – One Day (Seelyville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Rifle 223 (Carbine) Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Rifle 125 or similar class. \nIf you have not attended Rifle 125\, then you should be able to reliably hit a 10″ paper plate from the standing position out to 25 yards\, kneeling at 50 yards\, and prone at 100 yards. You should be able to consistently hit a 3×5 index card at 15 yards while standing. You should be familiar with basic operation of your carbine. If you cannot meet the accuracy suggestion then you may be frustrated at carbine class and be better served learning the fundamentals of marksmanship at a Rifle 125 clinic. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: 300 rounds/day \nRifle Requirements: This course is conducted as an NRA America’s Rifle Challenge clinic and\, as such\, the AR-15 is an ideal rifle to bring. From the high point of the Evacuation of Boston to the lows of early winter of 1776\, follow the Continental Army as they are forced to flee across New York and New Jersey. Learn about the nearly insurmountable challenges they faced and the hope\, faith and daring that pulled Victory out of certain defeat. \nIf you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to face down a huge amphibious armada invading New York City\, shiver around a campfire reading about “summer soldiers and sunshine patriots\,” or gamble it all on a desperate crossing of the Delaware River for “Liberty or Death” then you need to hear the Spirit of 1776. \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events.

On the second day\, we will put all this knowledge to work shooting targets at unknown distance (“UKD”). This will be best achieved with scoped rifles although open sights are acceptable. \n\nDay 1—Rimfire Known Distance\, shot with .22LR rimfire rifles (Ruger 10/22\, Marlin 795\, etc.) at shorter distances to save money and time (please only bring .22LR to ease our job in keeping track of cartridge ballistics)\nDay 2—Centerfire Unknown Distance\, shot with centerfire rifles (AR\, AK\, bolt guns\, etc.) at ranges up to 750 yards\n\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Rifle 125 or Rifle 223 (Carbine)\, or previous experience with CMP\, High Power or NRA disciplines. \nIf you cannot consistently hit a 5″ circle at 100 yards from the prone position\, you will be frustrated at Rifle 262. Material from Basic Rifle will be only briefly reviewed. . \nEstimated Ammunition Required: 150 rounds of .22LR (or other rimfire ammunition) and 60 rounds of centerfire (no steel core/AP/etc.). \nIf you’d like to attend this clinic but cannot source ammunition please contact the Event Director prior to the event. \nRifle Requirements: You will need two rifles for this event: \n\nDay 1—a safe rifle chambered in .22LR. On the first day\, we will be firing at reduced distances of 25-100 yards which effectively simulate the challenges of obtaining hits with a centerfire rifle at 100-400 yards. Single-shot\, bolt-action\, lever-action\, semi-auto\, etc.\, are all acceptable. As long as it’s a safe rifle chambered in .22LR you’re good to go!\nDay 2—a safe rifle chambered in your choice of centerfire calibers. ARs\, AKs\, bolt guns\, etc.\, are all plenty good for what we’ll be doing. We’ll take the concepts you learned on your “little rifle” and put them into practice on the big boys!\n\nIf you’d like to attend this clinic but do not have a suitable rifle\, please contact the Event Director prior to the event. \nScope Requirements: This event is designed for scoped rifles though you may attend with other sights. Ideally\, a click-adjustable scope (around 4× fixed magnification\, 2-7×\, 3-9×\, etc. variable magnification for the .22LRs\, bigger is OK for the centerfires). We will be making sight adjustments throughout the day so having a click-adjustable scope will enhance your experience. \nIf you’d like to attend this clinic but do not have a good scope\, please contact the Event Director prior to the event. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Rifle 262 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nA sturdy\, field-expedient rest (bipod/sandbag/pack/bedroll\, etc.; USGI slings are acceptable but not ideal)\nNotebook and Pencil/Pen\nCalculator (you probably have one on your cell phone)\nTape Measure (the fabric or soft plastic ones you find in the craft section are perfect\, small construction type will do)\nhearing protection\neye protection\nHydration\, Lunch & Snacks (water/electrolytes\, light lunch of field-stable foods)\nBag/Rucksack/Pack/Etc. to carry all the above (we’ll be moving throughout the weekend)\nBoots or Sturdy Shoes (we’ll be walking through the field and it may be muddy)\nDressed appropriately (LAYERED!!!) for two days in the field\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nshooting mat\nhigh powered binoculars or spotting scope\nelectronic range finder\ncompass\nsunscreen/bug spray\ntowel/change of clothes\n\nLoaner Firearms and Scopes: Loaner firearms and scopes suitable for use at this event are generally available but limited. Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nSummary: This 2-Day Rifle 262 clinic picks up where the introductory Rifle 125 and Rifle 223 (Carbine) courses leave off. Students\, having mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship and familiarity with their rifles\, learn to conceptualize and implement the fundamentals of field rifle marksmanship. Most importantly\, students will learn about their rifle — and themselves. \nField Rifle is focused on practical shooting under field conditions against targets at a variety of ranges out to 750 yards. This class is named for the “MK262” ammunition used by designated marksmen\, but you can be successful at landing hits with ball ammunition and a standard rifle. \nStudents will learn: \n\nField Shooting to known distances to include target detection\, target identification and basic ballistics calculation\nIntermediate calculation of minutes of angle for precise sight adjustments at all ranges and application to field shooting problems\nScanning and data collection\nField-expedient ranging of targets at unknown distances and how to fill out a range card\nStudents will leave with the knowledge and ability to effectively shoot out to 750 yards and beyond!\n\n \n“Shots that Changed the History of the World”\nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the weekend’s instructional events. Hear the stories of our Colonial Forefathers and the pivotal feats of marksmanship they made during the Revolutionary War that changed the course of world history. \nListen as our volunteers make this story come alive while simultaneously connecting the fundamentals we learn during the clinic. \nAdditional Information:\nAttendees are welcome to camp on the range. Please contact the Event Director with any additional questions.
