SUMMARY:8th Annual Marty Brown Memorial Invitational (Camp Atterbury\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS BY INVITATION ONLY. If after reading the event description you would like to participate\, please contact the Event Director to request an invitation. \nMarty Brown Memorial Invitational Overview\nThe Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ rifle match honors Marty Brown\, an instructor with Revere’s Riders who lost a 40-month battle with ovarian cancer in 2017. A portion of match proceeds will be donated to Ovar’coming Together to assist in their programs to support women diagnosed with ovarian cancer as well as funding ovarian cancer research. You can read more about Marty as well as Ovar’coming Together on the Marty Brown Memorial™ page of our website. \nThe comprehensive list of fundraising items for the 8th Annual Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ rifle match is available on the 2024 Marty Brown Memorial Invitational Swag Bags\, Give Aways\, Prizes\, Auctions page. \nMatch Information and Rules\nThe Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ rifle match is an informal 3-position known distance match shot according to the Revere’s Riders Rifle Qualification Test. This is an invitational match and you must be invited to attend. Marksmen will receive an invitation by satisfying one of the following: \n\nshoot a score of Marksman or better on the Revere’s Riders Rifle Qualification Test (must be in the same calendar year as the Invitational)\nsatisfy the Match Director that you are proficient and safe enough to participate\n\nThis is a competition match and no instruction will be provided. \nFor general match information and rules\, please see the Marty Brown Memorial Invitational Rifle Match Rules page. \nAdditional Event Information\nTicket sales end at 1700 on Oct. 25th in order for us to get a list of participants to Camp Atterbury security which will allow access to the base. \nTicket price includes all range fees. \nPre-registration is Required\nAll participants must purchase tickets by the DEADLINE of 5:00 PM on October 25\, 2024.  Absolutely no registrations will be allowed after this deadline. The unique venue for this event requires that we share your name and other personal information you submit to Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (CAJMTC)\, Military Police and the Range Control office. Your information will not be used in any manner other than to allow your admittance to the installation and to contact you regarding this event. Pre-registration is required so that we can forward your information to CAJMTC in time for the event. You are also responsible for reading the below additional range information specific to Camp Atterbury. Please keep in mind that we are using a military facility and military rules and discipline are in force. \nRefund Policy\nEvent will be held RAIN or SHINE!\nCamp Atterbury is an active military installation\, as such we may have our scheduled access removed as late as the day before the event. Refunds will only be issued for this event due to cancellation of the event by military authorities. Absolutely no refunds will be given for any other reason. \nAdditional Range Information\nArrival Time \nYou MUST Arrive On Time\nPlan to arrive NO LATER than 7:45AM. Anyone arriving later than this will not be allowed to participate in the event and your event fees will not be refunded. This is due to the need to meet at Range Control and proceed to the range as a group. We will not wait for you; plan to be early. \nBase Firearms Policy \nCAJMTC firearms policy—NO LOADED FIREARMS PERMITTED ON BASE. Concealed carry is NOT ALLOWED on base; you may only load a firearm while on a designated range. Before you proceed to to the base entrance and attempt to pass through security\, make sure that all firearms in your vehicle and on your person (don’t forget your concealed carry sidearm) are unloaded\, in a secure case and separated from your ammunition. This is generally Indiana state law (see IC 35-47-2-1). If you are refused entry to the base for any reason\, your event fees will not be refunded. \nDirections to Range Control \nYou will be required to pass through the Camp Atterbury main gate to access the military side of the base. When asked\, tell gate security that you are there for the Revere’s Riders event along with any other information gate security requests. IMPORTANT—do NOT attempt to go to the range on your own. There are numerous ranges at Camp Atterbury and any number of them can be “hot” at any given time. There are ranges for pistols\, rifles\, artillery as well as strafing (witnessing an A-10 Warthog engaging in a strafing run is awe inspiring from a distance); some of the ranges involve firing over roadways (if the range is “hot”\, these should be blockaded\, but better safe than sorry). Wandering onto any of these ranges while they are “hot” could lead to a VERY bad day. Range Control is reached by continuing south on the entrance road (Eggleston Street). Range Control will be on your left just before County Road 900 South. Himsel Airfield will be on your right just beyond the intersection of Eggleston Street and CR 900 S. \nOvernight Accommodations\nCivilian lodging is available on base for those who wish to stay overnight. Standard rooms with shared bathroom are $43/night and Deluxe rooms with private bath are $58/night. For reservations\, call the Camp Atterbury Lodging Office at 812-526-1128. Let them know that you are with Revere’s Riders. \nEvent Sponsors\n\n\n \n  \n\n3M Peltor has graciously provided Revere’s Riders with Peltor LiteCom Plus communications headsets for use at this event. These headsets incorporate radios allowing wearers to communicate with each other via their headsets. Extremely convenient for ranges where the target line is manned like Camp Atterbury. \n\n\n\n\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Meprolight\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Eva-Dry\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Premier Arms\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Magnetospeed\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Schmid Inside\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Crossbreed Holsters\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Timber Creek Outdoors\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Timney Triggers\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Vortex Optics\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n UM Tactical\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Briley\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n 101 Tech USA\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Criterion Barrels\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Samson Manufacturing\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Galco Holsters\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n XS Sights\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Voodoo Tactical\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n 3M/Peltor\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Glock\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Kestrel Meters\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Daniel Defense\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n HIVIZ Shooting Systems\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Kahr Arms\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n Palmetto State Armory

SUMMARY:Rimfire Only Basic Rifle - One Day (Laramie\, WY)
DESCRIPTION:This event is .22LR ONLY; please leave your centerfire rifle at home (your wallet will thank you!) All participants MUST register online—no walk-ons are permitted \nRifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in .22LR ONLY. Magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Bring whatever rifle you have and we will work with you. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Rifle 125 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nyour rifle chambered in .22LR ONLY – LOANER RIFLES ARE NOT AVAILABLE at this event\nsling for your rifle (a 1¼” US GI sling\, Magpul RLS\, “Ching”\, or M-1907 slings are strongly preferred as our instruction will be specific to these sling types; SOME loaner slings MAY be available at the event). Talon makes high-quality sling swivels (inch and quarter) that are comparable in price to their more cheaply made counterparts\nat least two magazines for your rifle\, 8 (10 round) magazines are recommended\na way to take notes; given the fact that we work thru all-weather “Rite In The Rain” pads are a good option\, as are spiral bound 3″x5″ cards found inexpensively at department stores when carried in baggies. Also\, bring pencils/pens. Remember the “winner” is not the shooter who gets the highest score\, but the shooter who brings home the most information and practices!\nhearing protection; recommend having both multiple sets of foam earplugs and headset type hearing protection on hand\neye protection; clear or amber lenses recommended for peep sights and overcast weather\, dark lenses for sunny and snowy weather\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal); minimum 2 gallons per day\, please. Nalgene-type water bottles refilled from bulk water work better and create less trash than disposable water bottles; Camelback-type hydration pouches are discouraged in below-freezing weather; big insulated sippy-cups with your favorite (non-coffee) hot beverage are also encouraged\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose-fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)). Long underwear with layers over it protecting from cold and wind is a smart way to go. Safety colors are always a plus. Cold-weather boots preferred; no sneakers/sandals/open-toe shoes.\nshooting mat\, foam camping pad\, carpet remnant\, or similar; nothing inflatable. Some loaners may be available first-come first-served; please call to reserve\nkneepads\, preferably with a plastic cap\nsome kind of camp/folding chair is a must\nwe have a working lunch; please bring something shelf-stable (bars/cans/pouches; or in a sealed container) and not too heavy. Snacks (granola bars\, etc are better than loose chips-type) are also good to have\nmagic marker; contractor-grade Sharpie preferred\nknowledge to service and safely operate YOUR rifle\nziplock baggies of all sizes are handy for waterproofing ammo/gear\, and a MUST for packing out your trash\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition is of the same type (i.e. same weight\, type\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Standard velocity (approximately 1150fps) round nose 40gr (e.g.\, CCI Standard Velocity) target ammo often brings the best results. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. \nPlease have your rifle ready to go for this shoot with everything (sights/scopes/slings) attached. We are NOT gunsmiths/armorers\, and cannot steal time from your fellow shooters to mess with your rifle. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\ntarps make picking up brass easier\nTech Sights makes a GI-style peep sight far superior to stock iron sights for target shooting if your eyes are young enough to take advantage. Optics are a must for most of us old farts; A&A Optics is a great place to go if you have questions. Red/green/etc dot scopes are NOT recommended as the dot is usually larger than the target\, obscuring it\nelbow pads\ncleaning supplies (bore snake\, etc) are always smart to have\nwhite trash bag or white towel (cover your rifle to protect from rain/sun)\nin an event that challenges both shooter and rifle\, it never hurts to bring a spare rifle\n\nLoaner Firearms: NOT AVAILABLE at this event \nOverview: This is our signature offering\, based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Rifle 125 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing\, and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier

DESCRIPTION:Rifle 262 (Field Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested — Rifle 125 or previous experience with CMP\, High Power or NRA disciplines. \nIf you cannot consistently hit a 5″ circle at 100 yards from the prone position\, or if you are unfamiliar with the standing/seated/prone positions and sling usage\, you will be frustrated at Rifle 262. Material from Basic Rifle will be only briefly reviewed.  \nEstimated Ammunition Required: Bring 150 to 200 rounds/day. It is important that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in a centerfire caliber of your preference (we will be shooting at distances beyond the effective range of most rimfire calibers). \nPlease make an effort to get a known zero prior to attending (25 yds or 200 yds preferred\, but any known zero will work).  At the very least\, bore sight your AR-platform or bolt rifle by pulling the bolt and aligning the sighting system with the bore at a mark 25 yards away.  If you are not zeroed\, we will make an attempt to get you there but a good zero will facilitate your learning. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Rifle 262 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nsling for your rifle (the US GI sling will work perfectly for this event\, but if you bring another style\, it should be an easily adjustable sling)\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nshooting mat\nhigh powered binoculars or spotting scope\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Rifle 262 picks up where the introductory Rifle 125 clinic leaves off. Students\, having mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship\, learn to apply their skills out to the rifleman’s quarter-mile. Most importantly\, students will learn about their rifle — and their skill level with it at real distances. \nField Rifle is focused on practical shooting under field conditions against targets at a variety of ranges\, with a focus on the “Rifleman’s quarter-mile” which is 100-400 yards. This class is named for the “MK262” ammunition used by designated marksmen\, but you can be successful at landing hits with ball ammunition and a standard rifle. Students will learn: \n\nField shooting to known distances out to 400 yds to include target detection\, target identification and basic ballistics calculations\nCalculations of minutes of angle (MOA) changes needed for precise sight adjustments at all ranges and application to field shooting problems\nConsiderations for wind adjustments and up-hill/down-hill shooting\nData collection for shooting to known distances with your equipment\nField-expedient ranging of targets at unknown distances\nStudents will be able to challenge the Long Range Qualification Test and other Field Shooting challenges at actual distances; individual events may vary by venue and available distances.\n\nThe Spirit of 1776\nPicking up where “The Midnight Ride” concludes\, the Spirit of 1776 traces the first full year of the American war for independence. From the high point of the Evacuation of Boston to the lows of early winter of 1776\, follow the Continental Army as they are forced to flee across New York and New Jersey. Learn about the nearly insurmountable challenges they faced and the hope\, faith and daring that pulled victory out of certain defeat. \nIf you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to face down a huge amphibious armada invading New York City\, shiver around a campfire reading about “summer soldiers and sunshine patriots\,” or gamble it all on a desperate crossing of the Delaware River for “Liberty or Death” then you need to hear the Spirit of 1776. \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nThere is a $10/person range fee that is payable on the day of the event. \nAdditional Range Information\nFree camping will be available at the range on Friday and Saturday night. Participants will have access to the club house for restrooms and limited kitchen support for dinner on Saturday night.

SUMMARY:Museum of the American Revolution Special Event (Audubon PA)
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS LIMITED TO STAFF OF THE MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION\nOverview\nAt the Museum of the American Revolution (MoAR) in Philadelphia\, we provide our visitors with memorable encounters with original objects and exposure to diverse and unfamiliar stories to make the story of the American Revolution more accessible to everyone. Our educators also engage visitors of all ages with replicas of historical objects to provide experiential learning opportunities. Firearms\, both the historic artifacts the Museum displays and the replicas the Museum’s educators use to interpret those artifacts\, are popular learning tools for visitors. Several of our colleagues who discuss firearms with visitors\, however\, have never had the opportunity to load and fire a flintlock musket or rifle. \nUp to 15 MoAR staff members participate in a day-long live firing session with replicas of flintlock muskets and rifles from the Museum’s education collection. This experience will enhance our team’s ability to educate visitors about the Revolutionary War. \nMoAR will plan to bring replicas of a French musket\, a British musket\, and a Pennsylvania rifle to the range for use during the session. MoAR will also bring the necessary black powder\, lead balls\, and buckshot for each of the three firearms. \nRequired Equipment: Please plan to bring the following: \n\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nfolding chair\nlunch (we are close to a WAWA and other lunch options)\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nInstruction:  \n\nRules for safe muzzleloader handling & range rules\nFirearm parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing\, and sitting/kneeling positions\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning\, “The Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green\, and the “shots heard round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices along the 17-mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \n  \nOur history presentations are based on “Paul Revere’s Ride” by David Hackett Fischer\, a thoroughly researched recounting of the events leading up to the historic skirmishes between Patriots and Red Coats at Concord and Lexington on April 19\, 1775. \n\n“The true story of Paul Revere’s ride is very different from the popular myth of the lone rider of the Revolution…This is a tale of contingency\, with great events hanging in the narrow balance. It is the story of free people\, making hard choices. Most of all\, it is about America’s half-remembered heritage of collective action in the cause of freedom. When Paul Revere and his many friends alarmed the Middlesex countryside\, they were carrying that message for us.” \n\n

SUMMARY:Rifle 262 (Field Rifle) – Two Day (Marion\, OH)
DESCRIPTION:Rifle 262 (Field Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested — Rifle 125 or previous experience with CMP\, High Power or NRA disciplines. \nIf you cannot consistently hit a 5″ circle at 100 yards from the prone position\, or if you are unfamiliar with the standing/seated/prone positions and GI sling usage\, you will be frustrated at Rifle 262. Material from Basic Rifle will be only briefly reviewed. Rifle 223 (Carbine) is not required. \nEstimated Ammunition Required: Bring 150 to 200 rounds/day. It is important that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same bullet weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Rifle 262 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nsling for your rifle (while a US GI sling will work perfectly well for this event\, many prefer a more easily adjustable sling)\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your rifle\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nshooting mat\nhigh powered binoculars or spotting scope\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Rifle 262 picks up where the introductory Rifle 125 clinic leaves off. Students\, having mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship\, learn to apply their skills out to the rifleman’s quarter-mile. Most importantly\, students will learn about their rifle — and themselves. \nField Rifle is focused on practical shooting under field conditions against targets at a variety of ranges\, with a focus on the “Rifleman’s quarter-mile:” 100-400 yards. This class is named for the “MK262” ammunition used by designated marksmen\, but you can be successful at landing hits with any ball ammunition and a standard rifle. Students will learn: \n\nField Shooting to known distances to include target detection\, target identification and basic ballistics calculation\nIntermediate calculation of minutes of angle for precise sight adjustments at all ranges and application to field shooting problems\nData collection for shooting to known distances\nField-expedient ranging of targets at unknown distances\nStudents will be able to challenge the Qualification Test\, Battle Rattle\, and/or Field Shoot at actual distance; exact events may vary by venue and class.\n\nThe Spirit of 1776\nPicking up where “The Midnight Ride” concludes\, the Spirit of 1776 traces the first full year of the American war for independence. \nAdditional Range Information\nFree camping will be available at the range on Saturday night. Participants will have access to the club house for restrooms and limited kitchen support for dinner on Saturday night.

SUMMARY:Intro to Defensive Pistol - One Day (Seelyville\, IN)
DESCRIPTION:Intro to Defensive Pistol Overview\nPrerequisites: Suggested—Revere’s Riders Revere’s Riders Basic Pistol or similar. This is not an introductory course and participants are expected to be capable of the following: \n\nhandling their firearm in a safe manner\nkeeping shots within a 6″ square from approximately 7 yards\n\nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 250 rounds/day. \nPistol Requirements: Pistols should be of a modern\, drop safe design. \nOlder single action pistols manufactured before the 1980s and lacking a transfer bar safety are the most common type of pistol that lack drop safe design features\, as do some military surplus imports from Eastern bloc countries and Taurus PT-series pistols not fixed during an international safety recall in 2015. These pistols may discharge if dropped and pose a potential safety hazard to our volunteers and students\, and are not permitted. If you have concerns about the safety features of your pistol you should have it inspected by an armorer or gunsmith before class. \nThe following are a good set of guidelines for an appropriate pistol for this event: \n\nbring the pistol you intend to use for concealed carry; leave the brand new pistol you bought the day before the event at home\na rimfire pistol can be used for practice during some of the drills with a transition to your centerfire pistol to complete the drill (see the section on Rimfire Pistols below)\na medium-frame pistol is often ideal for concealed carry (e.g.\, Glock 19 or similar); smaller pistols are difficult to shoot accurately and larger pistols are uncomfortable to carry all day long\nmake sure your pistol is in good working order; if in doubt\, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith or armorer. A pistol that malfunctions constantly will get you plenty of practice addressing malfunctions but not much practice with the drills\n\nIf you have any questions concerning the suitability of your pistol for this course\, please contact the Event Director. \n\n\n\n\nRimfire Pistols: Due to the current cost and lack of availability of centerfire ammunition\, rimfire pistols will be allowed at this event subject to the following: \n\nsuitable centerfire/rimfire pistol combinations\, in order of preference\, are:\n\npairs of pistols such as the Glock 19 and Glock 44 that are nearly identical in size and function\npistols that are not as similar as the Glock 19/Glock 44 but still properly fit the same holster\nyour concealed carry centerfire pistol along with a .22LR conversion kit that is easy enough to swap in/out in a short period of time (<1 minute) without tools (e.g.\, a Glock 19 and the Advantage Arms .22LR Conversion Kit)\nseparate centerfire and rimfire pistols along with appropriate holsters for both (in a pinch\, you will be able to get by without a proper holster for your rimfire pistol)\n\n\nbring 250 rounds of quality rimfire ammunition (be picky about your rimfire ammunition as the cheap stuff is usually not very reliable; you can’t go wrong with CCI Mini-Mag\, Fiocchi\, or Federal)\nbring THREE (or more) magazines for your rimfire pistol (this is in addition to the THREE or more magazines for your centerfire pistol)\nappropriate holsters for both pistols (assuming your rimfire pistol does not properly fit your centerfire pistol holster)\n\nIT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SATISFACTORILY COMPLETE THIS COURSE WITH ONLY A RIMFIRE PISTOL! \nDuring the course\, you will use your rimfire pistol as initial practice for a given drill and then transition to your centerfire pistol to demonstrate competency.\n\n\n\n\nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions on appropriate Defensive Pistol equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\nmagazines or speed loaders: bring at least THREE (more is better\, especially if you are using a pistol with a capacity of less than 10 rounds)\nholster: a strong side holster that does not collapse when your pistol is drawn (no appendix\, ankle\, shoulder or small-of-back holsters). Either IWB (“inside the waistband”) or OWB (“outside the waistband”) are fine\, but the holster you intend to use for concealed carry would be preferred. An OWB holster is often easier to use if you have never drawn from a holster before but will still allow you to participate fully in the drills we will conduct. The crucial aspect is that your holster MUST hold your firearm securely without letting it move around on your hip; this will necessitate a holster that attaches at TWO POINTS to your gun belt; there are a few holsters that attach to your gun belt at one point and still hold your firearm securely\, but they generally attach over an extended length of your belt effectively simulating two points of attachment.\ngun belt: you will have your pistol on your hip for the entire day. It will seem heavier as the day goes on and a good\, sturdy gun belt will minimize that feeling. A standard belt isn’t going to cut it here; spend a couple of dollars on a quality gun belt if you don’t already have one.\nmagazine carrier (you can get by with putting spare magazines in a pocket\, but a magazine carrier is much preferred)\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\ncase for your pistol\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nOverview: Intro to Defensive Pistol begins with an overview of the range rules\, safety procedures and quick reminder of the fundamentals from basic pistol. From there\, the course focuses on the mechanics of defensive pistol shooting.  Lecture topics include: “Why do we do this?”\, the physiological and psychological aspects of dynamic critical incidents for both the “good guy” and the “bad guy”\, firearms and ancillary equipment for defensive use among other topics. Range exercises build on each successive evolution ending the day with a simple drill that rehearses the physical and mental issues dealt with during the class. \nAt the end of the course\, you will have learned a simple drill that will help you internalize the basics of defensive pistol craft. \nAdditional Event Information\nMinors (under 18 years old) must be mature enough to follow the instruction and perform the drills as well as have a parent or legal guardian present during the event. \nAdditional Questions?\nJohn Viray is available at the email address below to answer questions both before and after the course.
