SUMMARY:Museum of the American Revolution Special Event (Audubon PA)
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS LIMITED TO STAFF OF THE MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION\nOverview\nAt the Museum of the American Revolution (MoAR) in Philadelphia\, we provide our visitors with memorable encounters with original objects and exposure to diverse and unfamiliar stories to make the story of the American Revolution more accessible to everyone. Our educators also engage visitors of all ages with replicas of historical objects to provide experiential learning opportunities. Firearms\, both the historic artifacts the Museum displays and the replicas the Museum’s educators use to interpret those artifacts\, are popular learning tools for visitors. Several of our colleagues who discuss firearms with visitors\, however\, have never had the opportunity to load and fire a flintlock musket or rifle. \nUp to 15 MoAR staff members participate in a day-long live firing session with replicas of flintlock muskets and rifles from the Museum’s education collection. This experience will enhance our team’s ability to educate visitors about the Revolutionary War. \nMoAR will plan to bring replicas of a French musket\, a British musket\, and a Pennsylvania rifle to the range for use during the session. MoAR will also bring the necessary black powder\, lead balls\, and buckshot for each of the three firearms. \nRequired Equipment: Please plan to bring the following: \n\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nhat with a brim\nstapler (and extra staples) to attach your target to the backer board\nfolding chair\nlunch (we are close to a WAWA and other lunch options)\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nInstruction:  \n\nRules for safe muzzleloader handling & range rules\nFirearm parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing\, and sitting/kneeling positions\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning\, “The Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green\, and the “shots heard round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices along the 17-mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \n  \nOur history presentations are based on “Paul Revere’s Ride” by David Hackett Fischer\, a thoroughly researched recounting of the events leading up to the historic skirmishes between Patriots and Red Coats at Concord and Lexington on April 19\, 1775. \n\n“The true story of Paul Revere’s ride is very different from the popular myth of the lone rider of the Revolution…This is a tale of contingency\, with great events hanging in the narrow balance. It is the story of free people\, making hard choices. Most of all\, it is about America’s half-remembered heritage of collective action in the cause of freedom. When Paul Revere and his many friends alarmed the Middlesex countryside\, they were carrying that message for us.” \n\n

SUMMARY:Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) - One Day (Audubon\, PA)
DESCRIPTION:Rifle 125 (Basic Rifle) Overview\nPrerequisites: None \nEstimated Ammunition Required: About 200 rounds/day. \nRifle Requirements: You will need a safe rifle chambered in a rimfire caliber (.22LR\, .17HMR\, etc.) or a “pistol caliber carbine” (PCC) chambered in 9x19mm\, .38 S&W/.357 Magnun\, .40 S&W or .45 ACP. Note that centerfire rifle calibers will not be allowed due to restrictions for the range we will be using. Loaner rifles are generally available; if you need a loaner rifle\, please indicate such when filling out your ticket information. \nMagazine-fed semi-automatic rifles generally work best for our classes\, but any other type of rifle (tube-fed semi-automatic\, lever-action\, bolt-action\, etc.) can be used as well. Note that your pistol caliber carbine (and rifle as well) should have sling mounts in order for you to fully benefit from our instruction at this event. \nRequired Equipment: Please review our suggestions for appropriate Rifle 125 equipment and plan to bring the following: \n\ncase for your rifle\nat least two magazines for your rifle\na way to take notes\nhearing protection\neye protection\nplenty of your preferred method of hydration (both plain water and something to replace electrolytes you will lose via sweating is ideal)\nclothing appropriate for the weather (loose fitting clothing\, especially around the neck\, is discouraged as hot brass can lodge against the skin and cause a burn)\n\nIt is helpful that all ammunition be of the same type (i.e. same weight\, manufacturer\, etc) for this event. Shooting will primarily be at 25 yards. At some facilities\, it may be possible to move out to longer distances\, but a rimfire rifle should be just fine for all activities. \nOptional Equipment: The following equipment is not required but may come in handy at the event: \n\nsling for your rifle (a US GI sling is preferred; loaner slings are typically available at the event)\nshooting mat\, carpet remnant or similar (loaner shooting mats are typically available at the event)\nhat with a brim (to deflect flying hot brass)\nfolding chair\nlunch\nsnacks\nsunscreen and/or bug spray\n\nLoaner Firearms: the club has a number of loaner firearms suitable for use at this event (Smith&Wesson M&P 15-22s). Please contact the Event Director prior to the event if you would like to request a loaner firearm. \nOverview: This is our signature offering\, based on traditional American riflecraft that teaches “Hits Count!” It is appropriate for a wide breadth of student skill levels. This course lays a sound foundation for students to shoot groups under time pressure from a variety of practical field positions. Rifle 125 includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn: \n\nRules for safe gun handling & range rules\nRifle parts and operation & ammunition\nShooting fundamentals: Five steps to firing each shot\nNatural Point of Aim\nShooting from the prone\, standing and sitting/kneeling positions to include use of the sling\nIntroduction to Sight Adjustments and basic calculation of minutes of angle\n25 Yard “Morgan’s 13” Classifier\n25 Yard Rifle Qualifier\n\nThe Midnight Ride of Paul Revere\nHear the true story of Paul Revere’s famous ride and learn about the events that immediately precipitated the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere did not ride alone – many individuals played crucial roles in the events of April 19th\, 1775. \nThis history presentation begins with alarm riders warning “the Regulars are out!” You’ll hear about the dramatic stand on Lexington Green and the “shots heard ’round the world” at Concord’s North Bridge. The tale concludes with harrowing life-or-death choices made along the 17 mile “battle road.” \nThis exciting tale will be woven throughout the day’s marksmanship events. \nAdditional Event Information\nThis event is open to the public and is appropriate for all ages that can safely handle a rifle. \nAll participants must have eye and ear protection. \nAll rifles must be cased unless on the firing line. \nAdditional Range Information\nThis event will be on bay 4 of the 25 yard range. Bottled water is provided for all participants. \n
