MBM Donation of the Day: Daniel Defense

by / / 2024 MBM Donation of the Day, Marty Brown Memorial, Upcoming RR Events

Daniel Defense, a founding sponsor of the Marty Brown Memorial™ series of events, has generously donated a DDM4v7 rifle to this year’s events. Marty Daniel, founder of Daniel Defense, flunked out of the Georgia Southern University engineering program. Twice. After his second failed attempt at an engineering degree, Marty was determined to succeed. He more than fulfilled that by making the Dean’s List and graduating in 1985. He now sits on the Georgia Southern University’s Engineering School board of advisors.

Marty began his business career in overhead doors and fireplaces until one fateful day when a golfing buddy took him to the range and Marty fired his friend’s AR-15. Marty was hooked (is it a coincidence that Marty Daniel and Marty Brown share a first name and similar introductions to firearms as adults? Maybe. Maybe not.) Daniel Defense’s first product was the “Big Hole Upper“. Once all 100 of those were sold, Marty went on to design and manufacture a unique sling, an AR rail used by the US Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), the RIS II rail for the US Army SOCOM, and on and on.

Daniel Defense produced its first rifle (the DDM4) in 2009. Only 24 rifles were sold that year. Needless to say, Daniel Defense produces considerable more rifles than that now and every component of the rifle is manufactured and designed in Black Creek, GA.
