Intermediate Rifle AAR – Tusco Rifle Club, Midvale, OH

Huzzah!!! We had a great Intermediate Rifle event at Tusco Rifle Club near Midvale, Ohio this past weekend. Shooters spent two days (actually a day and a half) working with their centerfire rifles at distances out to 600 yds. We had to shorten the event on Sunday as a cold front was relentlessly moving our way on Sunday. We shortened the instructions on Sat morning to get as much “pew-pew” time as possible in on Saturday as we didn’t know when the front would arrive on Sunday.

Everyone worked hard as we shot sighters at each of the qualifying distances (100yds-400yds) recording the settings for each distance. After a great lunch provided by the club for a donation, we returned to the range and completed two qualifying tests. Everyone did well and we had several shooters deliver qualifying scores.

Sunday dawned cloudy but with no rain yet. The latest forecast called for rain, lightning and winds up to 40mph arriving about noon so we quickly covered the range estimation instructions we postponed on Saturday and moved back to the range. We were able to get two more qualifying tests shot with more shooters making the grade. We also had about an hour for folks to work at 600 yds and/or work on the distance of their choice as the range has steel available every 100yds starting at 200yds and going out to 600yds. The winds were picking up and it was clear that the rain was close so as a group, we decided it was a great weekend and we all called it a weekend.

We were able to then police up our brass, break down the target line, pack up our personal gear and just as we left the range for the main clubhouse, the rain began. We had another great lunch in the clubhouse, followed with certificate awards to all the shooters who shot a qualifying score. Goodbyes were exchanged and folks headed out with a better understanding of their rifle, their ammo and their skills. Weekend well spent.
