AAR: June 7-8 Basic Rifle (Seelyville, IN)

by / / After Action Report (AAR)

15 intrepid marksman, oblivious to the questionable weather conditions, journeyed to Lost Creek Conservation Club in Seelyville, IN for a 2-day Basic Rifle on June 7-8, 2025. The weather turned out not to be as bad as anticipated and a full two days of rifle training ensued.

Our group of 15 included first-timers, highly experienced riflemen, and several dads. Two of the dads were intrigued after their sons attended a rifle course put on by Revere’s Riders (we’re happy to do these kinds of special events for groups, just contact us and let us know what kind of event you’d like and we’ll do our best to accommodate you) while one of the other dads brought along a son (who attended his first Revere’s Riders event six years ago and was back for more) and the final dad brought along a son and a daughter (the ladies nearly always show impressive marksmanship).

We love having families attend our events and make every effort to accommodate different experience and skill levels while simultaneously making our events safe.

This group was especially “squared away”. Out of the 15 attendees, 8 “shot a score” (unfortunately, two attendees who “shot a score” did not attend on the 2nd day and are not pictured below):

Of these 8, three merit special recognition:

  • Scott shot his 42/50 (“Sharpshooter”) score using a bolt-action rifle
  • Travis also shot his 45/50 (“Expert”) score using a bolt-action rifle but added several degrees of difficulty by doing so left-handed
  • Brian shot his 49/50 (“Master”) score shooting left-handed as well (Brian is naturally right-handed)

Congratulations to everyone that “shot a score”; each will be receiving an invitation to the Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ (“MBMI”) rifle match to be held later this year at Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh, IN (typically the 1st weekend of November, exact dates TBA). The Marty Brown Memorial™ series of events are fundraisers for ovarian cancer in honor of Marty Brown, a rifle instructor with Revere’s Riders who passed of ovarian cancer in 2017. To date, Revere’s Riders has raised over $75,000 in support of ovarian cancer organizations in both Indiana and Ohio.

The Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ is the marquee event and is fired on the military ranges of Camp Atterbury where the NRA holds its National Matches and where Marty loved to shoot. The course of fire will be the standard “Revere’s Riders Rifle Qualification Test” shot at full distance of 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards.

Each paid participant at Marty Brown Memorial™ events receives a “swag bag” with assorted items, is eligible to participate in a series of “skills contests” during the event, and can bid on items in a silent auction (in fact, everyone is invited to bid on silent auction items!). The list of donated items from last year includes:

More information on the Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ rifle match can be found in the AAR: 8th Annual Marty Brown Memorial Invitational™ post detailing last year’s event as well as the 2020 Marty Brown Memorial Invitational” in the February 2021 issue of Shooting Sports USA.
